Chapter Six
You Can Survive Finals
Finals. A word every student dreads to hear. Thankfully Levy, Juvia and me have been so busy studying for finals that they haven't asked about yesterday. So far we have spent our Sunday locked away in Levy's dorm with our faces glued to our textbooks. Every so often one of the boys would come by and check on us and see if we needed anything. Since textbooks were involved today I knew the boys would want to stay away as much as possible. They were not the most school enthused people.
I was deep in a celestial spirit studying trance when it was broken by the sound of knocking coming from the door. I got up and went to see who it was. "Oh, hey Natsu." "Luuuuuucccccccccyyyyyyyyy!" I heard coming from behind Natsu. Before I could even respond I was pummeled to the ground by a blue cat. I smiled and sat back up. "Hi Happy." Natsu rubbed the back of his neck and said, "sorry Luce. I couldn't get him to stay at the dorm. He really wanted to see you." He cracked a smile at the end of his sentence. "Don't worry about it." "So I stopped by to see if you girls needed anything?" Levy and Juvia both shook their heads 'no', still too engaged with their books. I turned back to Natsu, "I'm actually really hungry and really could use a break. Wanna go grab some lunch?" "Of course," Natsu said with a huge smile. "Hey guys, I'll be back in a little bit," I said to Levy and Juvia. They both waved and I grabbed my jacket and headed out the door. "It better be somewhere with fish." I heard a blue cat's voice say behind me. This made me giggle and Natsu said, "don't worry Happy, you'll have fish." "How about we grab something to eat at the guild?" I suggested. "It'll be a nice break from all the studying." Natsu shrugged his shoulders, "ok, sounds good to me. Mira is actually a great cook for being who she is." We both laughed and continued our walk to the guild.
I think it will be a while before I am not shocked at the size of this place. We walked, well Happy flew, into the hall and it was pretty calm. "Sundays are when most of the members rest up from usually a weekend full of partying and it looks like yesterday after we left was no exception," Natsu said laughing at the sight of some of his guild mates. Looking around I could see Cana must have passed out on top of one of the large wooden tables, Erza and Jellal had passed out in one of the corners back by the bar and a lot of the older members were hunched over steaming cups, I'm guessing something to rid of their hangovers. Looking then to the bar I saw Mira was there cleaning some glasses and next to her passed out on the bar itself was Makarov. 'I guess the master likes to party too' I thought smiling to myself. Natsu noticed and also looked back at the bar. As we got closer he said with a smirk, "believe it or not that happens often for him." We sat down next to the snoring old man and waited for Mira. "You would think with all the clanging from the glasses he would wake up. But no, there he still sleeps," Mira said with a chuckle. She turned her head from Makarov and looked at us. "So, can I get you two anything?" "I'm starving Mira, what do you have on the menu for today?" "Well, it's been a pretty lazy day so far. I have either grilled ham and cheese with tomato soup or a pulled pork sandwich." "Hmmmmmmm, the grilled ham and cheese sounds good." "Ok, I'll go get that started for you. Natsu do you want anything or are you good for now?" "I'm good for now Mira, thanks." Mira walked through a door that was located at the end of the bar, which I a, assuming was the kitchen. I was startled when I turned to my left and saw Makarov was no longer sleeping on the bar, but was sitting up, on top of the bar and drinking from a small barrel. 'He doesn't waste any time' I thought. "Good afternoon Master." "Hi ya Gramps." "Hello children. Lucy would you like to have a little history lesson today?" "That sounds a lot better than the finals I was studying for." "I'd like to share with the history of our guild." As Makarov finished his sentence Mira came out with my food. "Perfect," he said with a grin, "let's get started."
"Many years ago there was peace among vampires and humans. In order to keep this peace, vampires stuck to drinking animal blood. That was, until atrocious vampires grouped together. They felt we did not need to be nice to the humans and should not belittle ourselves for them. These vampires then began to attack. The humans saw this as a threat and began to counter attack. Since their population was greater in numbers, they had the upper hand and almost wiped out all the vampires. Of the vampires left, some of them were the founders of this guild. They were Precht, Warrod Sequen, Yuri Dreyar and Mavis Vermilion, our first master. They first found the guild as a refuge for vampires escaping from the humans. As the years went on and vampires became more of a legend than reality Mavis registered Fairy Tail with the council to become a legitimate guild, but still remained a refuge for any wondering vampires. She vowed that we would act as a guild and help humans to show them they were mistaken. This has been in place since day one. After Mavis was master, Precht became the second master and I am the third master. To this day we take pride in being a guild and a safe place for vampires." The history of the guild was an amazing one to learn and I knew none of this would be on the final. I could hear quiet snores to the right of me and knew Makarov's story had put Natsu to sleep. I laughed and rolled my eyes at him. "So Master if the guild is a safe place for vampires and who want to show the humans that vampires are not what they were made out to be, then why doesn't the guild allow humans to join and stay as humans? Why must they be turned into vampires?" "Ahhhh good question Lucy. It's mainly for our safety. Things could go very wrong if we let a human join and remain human. Information may accidentally be leaked and that can cause an uproar." This did seem to make sense, but if the guild wanted to show that vampires are not all that bad I don't think hiding still is going to help that. But i kept my mouth shut and felt it best to not argue with the guild's master. I finished up the last of my sandwich and thanked the master for the lesson. He nodded and hopped off the bar and headed up the stairs. I poked Natsu several times in the head before he finally woke up. "What did i miss?" He asked shooting his head up off the bar. "Just all of Master's story," I said laughing. "Well I already know the history, plus it made for a good nap." "Hey Natsu, wasn't Happy with us when we got here?" "Oh yeah, he more than likely went to go find Carla and Wendy. Happy has a thing for Carla," Natsu laughed. I started thinking how mushy Happy got yesterday when he was around Carla. "Well, I better get back to studying. That was a nice break though." "Ok, Luce. I'll walk you back"
I got back to Levy's dorm and said good-bye to Natsu and that I'd see him at school tomorrow. I went over to Levy and Juvia, sat back down on the bed and went back to studying. The rest of the night was filled with Celestial spirit knowledge, guild history and calculus. I looked over at the clock and saw it was past nine. "Hey guys I'm going to get some sleep before school tomorrow." "Ok Lucy, see you in the morning." I was shocked when I got back to my dorm to see a pink haired boy in my bed and his blue cat sleeping on my desk chair. I was tired from studying so I decided to not bother them. I got my pajamas on and tried to quietly get into bed. I caught under the sheets and Natsu began to move a little. "Hi Luce," he said in a drained voice. "Natsu why are you in my bed?" I asked. He sat up on his elbow and placed his hand on the side of his head. "Better to be safer than sorry I figured." There was no arguing with that. It was my life at stake here. I curled up next to him and laid my head next to his chest. "Let's get some sleep," I yawned. Natsu kissed the top of my head, wrapped his arms around my waist and laid his head on the back of mine. "Goodnight Natsu. Promise you'll always protect me." I thought the last part was barely loud enough for anyone to hear, but I heard Natsu whisper, "You'll never be out of my sight. So help me, I'll protect you with my life. Goodnight Lucy." I tightened my grip on his arms and drifted to sleep.
