The bell rang, indicating the end of the lunch period as everybody began to depart to class. I dismissed myself from the group as we went about our own ways.I swung my bag over my shoulder and stood from the table but Avalon tugged at my arm causing me to lose my balance . She plopped me down in the empty seat beside her, crossing her right leg over her left and giving me a wide smile that showed off her braces.
"What did you do?" I asked suspiciously , furrowing my eyebrows at her overly excited posture.
"What makes you think i did anything?" She asked while rolling her eyes, tapping her long fingernails against the lunchroom table.
"So you're going to make me miss class for nothing?" I asked, looking around at the cafeteria that was now being filled with students from the next Lunch period.
"Okay so you know that boy Daniel?" She asked, proving me right. I knew Daniel, he was part of student council along with me and a few others i talked to. We had only spoken a few times before since he was in my math class but other than that, we weren't close and quite frankly nowhere near the same social spectrum. He's what the high school stereotype would consider a 'geek.' Not that i was one to follow or believe in them.
"Yeah.. what about him?" I dragged on, confused as to why she felt the need to be asking me such a weird question when i should've been heading to class by now, already anticipating the sh!t storm that i was about face once walking into class late.
"He's a sweet guy right? And smart just like you."
"Okay why are you telling me this?" I asked impatiently.
"Because.." She trailed off, her blue eyes staring at her hands as she played with her food.
"Because what?"
"Well because you've been really stressed out over everything recently and i just figured that maybe you should try finding someone special that can take your mind off of things." She spoke nonchalantly, curling the bottom of her hair with her two fingers.
"Avalon, what are you trying to say?" I asked, tired of her dancing around the subject and right about ready to leave the female.
"I think you two should date." She said curtly, turning her attention to the salad that had been placed in front of her through out or whole exchange.
Out of all the things that have happened today, this had to top the list of ridiculousness. If that was even a word.
I coughed, choking on the air around us which earned a few looks of concern from the jocks who filled up our table.
Avalon had been watching me with a nervous yet excited look on her face, as if expecting the worst.
"Are you good?" She asked innocently.
"What the hell Avalon? Where would you even get the idea that i want to date anyone right now, and of all people, him?"
My life was a chaotic mess at the moment and i had no time for distractions. School and my education always came first and it was my priority no matter what. Call me a nerd if you want, but that's the reason i have the highest GPA out of the entire junior class. Everyone knows my name based on it.
"Oh my god, come on the last time you were with anyone was last summer. Plus you're the only one out of all of us that isn't experimenting with anyone." She groaned as if it meant anything to help her argument.
"Yeah, key word summer. And plus Rick was a total douche. He totally played me and i don't feel like putting up with any crap like Joyce is doing with her on and off again boyfriend. Don't even get me started on Emily who hasn't been in a stable relationship since the beginning of freshman year. Plus swimming season is about to start and i need to focus on that."
