I've learned over the past 3 years, the more chances you give someone the less respect they'll start to have for you. The standards you set will be ignored, because they know another chance will always be given. They're not afraid to lose you, they know that no matter what they do to you, that you won't walk away. Those people get comfortable with depending on you and the forgiveness you have.
