A/N - uh, holy shit?? Y'all totally blew up my notifications today and yesterday and it made my entire life. Thank you so much, i love you, and here's an update for being so awesome :)

I narrowly dodge the wooden mast as it comes crashing down on the ship, my footing slipping on the rainwater.

The beast -- whatever it is, it looks kind of like a snake -- gnashes its giant teeth and waves its tail threateningly. No, wait; that's not a tail. That's a tentacle. There are eight tentacles. Nine. Ten. Eleven.

"Captain!" I hear Avi call through the pouring rain and the sound of the beast's roars. "Lindsey's put a hole in the ship, we're sinking!"

Mitch looks worryingly between me, Avi, K.O., Kirstin, and the sea dragon, obviously stuck with no idea what to do. "Maybe..." he starts, his tone hopeful, but it's quickly distinguished as the sea monster swings one of its tentacles at the ship, splintering the bow and tossing it into the water as if it weighed no more than a few grams.

I look up. Our mast is gone. Our sail has completely disappeared. We've got no way of going anywhere, our ship is sinking...and our only magical allies are the one who caused the beast and storm, and the ones that are miles away.

"Just stay out of its way!" Mitch calls, struggling to stagger closer to us.

"Easier said than done, Captain!" K.O. bellows, pulling out his sword as if he would be able to fight the monster that way.

The beast roars in response, and with one of its large tentacles it throws K.O. across the ship, his head hitting the edge of the ship. He closes his eyes, passed out.

"Shit. Shit, shit, shit..." I hear Avi muttering behind me. "Captain! Do we have any cannons left?"

"We might, but there's no way we could ever get them to work in this storm. Besides, I think she blew out our cargo area," Mitch says, sighing. He doesn't seem scared. But then again, why would he? After all, it's not like the beast can kill him.

Others of us are a little more afraid. Kirstin is death-gripping Avi's hand, sobbing as she looks up at the monster. "I don't want to die, I don't..." she keeps murmuring.

The beast raises another one of its tentacles, ready to strike. Ready to strike me. "Look out!" Mitch cries. But I can't move. It's like I'm paralyzed here, trying to see beneath the monster, trying to call out to Lindsey somehow and tell her that it'll be okay.

And I sense her. In my mind, I can see her, crouched over in a corner somewhere, sobbing piteously. I don't know if it's a daydream, or a hallucination, or a vision, but if I'm able to contact Lindsey, then it doesn't matter. You're going to be alright, we care about you, I tell her mentally. Her head jerks up, as if she can hear me.

And then my daydream is cut short when something rams into my side. I fall to the ground with a pained groan, and open my eyes to see that the monster has smashed one of its large tentacles on the deck, smushing where I would have been if something hadn't...

Oh my God. The beast lifts its tentacle, and there, lying in the spot where I would have been, lies the captain, bruised and bleeding from his face. He'd been the one to push me out of the way. He'd taken the hit for me. His eyes are closed, passed out just like K.O.

"Mitch!" I yell, a rush of adrenaline quickly overcoming me as I stand from my seated, the-wind-was-just-knocked-out-of-me position. I run over to him the best that I can, and when I reach him, I try to shake him awake. He doesn't budge. With all of the strength that's left in me, I put one hand behind his back and other under his knees, and I pick him up and rush to another, hopefully safer area.
