It was the most boring lesson of the day, Astrophysics, and Charlie had never enjoyed it more.
He bit back a hiss as Matteusz breathed down his neck. "That is... not in the syllabus," Charlie muttered under his breath, hoping that no one could see what they were doing in the half-darkness of the classroom.
Ram glanced backwards at the couple and rolled his eyes, before turning back to face the Astrophysical video the substitute teacher was showing them. Charlie shifted as Matteusz's roaming hands slid in between his thighs, and his breath grew heavier. "Matteusz..."
The door flew open and April stumbled in, eyes wide and panting. "Ram, Charlie and M-Matteusz..." she stammered at the sub, who stared at her in confusion.
"The headmistress is looking for them!" Tanya burst out, flying through the door and skidding to a stop behind April.
"Duty calls," Charlie pushed Matteusz off and they followed the two girls into the corridor. Ram trailed behind, his eyes bright with excitement and slight apprehension.
"Why did you take us out of Astrophysics? It was just getting interesting!" Matteusz complained. Ram glared at him, and they followed the girls in silence towards the entrance of the school.
"A pod flew out of the rift just after lunch. The headmistress wanted us to investigate it," April explained. "And for some reason Tanya couldn't get anywhere near it but I could get a bit closer. I thought it might be the alien heart. So I - "
Charlie interrupted, "So you came looking for the alien prince. Of course. It's always the alien part of me that you need, isn't it?"
Tanya looked crestfallen. "Charlie, it's not just -"
"It's fine, he'll do it," announced Mattuesz.
Charlie sighed as they reached the pod. It was big enough to probably fit two humanoids, and had strange carvings all over the matte black surface. "I've never seen anything like this before," he hesitated. "Do you think it's dangerous?"
"It's a pod." Matteusz rolled his eyes.
"Fine, then," Charlie groaned, approaching the pod gingerly, his wary eyes scanning the surface of it, in case anything hostile shot out and tried to attack him. But nothing did, even when he touched the surface of the pod and ran his fingers over the designs.
"I can't imagine what this is," shrugged Charlie. "It doesn't seem to really do anything. Should I try to open the pod?"
But before Charlie could do anything else, an energy current shot out of the pod down Charlie's outstretched arm and he screamed in pain. Matteusz leapt towards him instinctively, but he ricocheted off of the invisible forcefield meant only for Earthlings and landed with a crash on the hood of a nearby parked car. April, Tanya and Ram tried in vain to fight against the current of the forcefield, shouting Charlie's name in a blind panic to retrieve their friend.
"Charlie!" Matteusz yelled desperately, scrambling off the car and stumbling towards the forcefield again. "I'm coming!" The only thing circulating around his mind was that his true love was in danger, and he'd been the one to encourage him into it. Guilt and fear pushed Matteusz on, and he managed to step through the forcefield.
Charlie was still screaming. His throat had gone hoarse, and his screams became choked and ragged. In the chaos of trying to rescue Charlie from the energy flowing from the pod, what the group hadn't realised was that the spacetime slit was pulsing, sending loud whooshes of wind howling through the school. When Tanya noticed, it was too late.
"Get away from the pod!" She screamed just as Matteusz's hand latched onto Charlie's and they were whipped through space and time, connected to the pod.
Both boys were unconscious when they landed on a rocky surface. Matteusz came to first, and frantically checked for Charlie's pulse, before breathing a sigh of relief at the faint pump of his veins. Only then did he look around in confusion, at the landscape of dark purple trees and long black grass. The slab of grey stone they were sitting on seemed to be the only spot that wasn't dark coloured in the whole area.
The pod had landed next to Charlie's body, and Matteusz shifted Charlie further away from it as soon as he realised. Then he noticed something different on the surface of the pod. It was cracked open, revealing a seat inside. Whatever had been inside was now free.
Swallowing nervously, his heart still bolting like a terrified horse, Matteusz scanned the landscape again. With the dark coloured plants and foliage, it was impossible to tell if there was anyone hiding on the plains that surrounded them, but in the distance, dark purple trees loomed, and Matteusz became sure that they were not alone when a light flickered in the shadows.
