“What happened?” Alex stood in the doorway and I couldn’t get into my own apartment.
“I just had to get to the hospital. My mother died.” I answered mechanically.
“Are you…” He seemed to hesitate. “Okay?”
“Yeah,” It was all I managed to say but he stepped aside and I went straight to the kitchen. I grabbed two beers in the fridge and handed him one.
He looked stunned for a second but took the beer anyway. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“No.” I muttered and stared out the window.
“Okay well, I’m going to grab some new clothes at my hotel so I’ll see you later.” He moved closer to me and brushed his lips lightly against my forehead. It tingled when he moved away. “Try to get some sleep, okay?”
I nodded and managed a small smile. As he left I got a tight feeling in my chest. I didn’t want him to leave. But I knew that it was the best thing because if he stayed I would have lost control again or he would start asking risky questions.
When I heard the door close, I fell back on the couch and stared at the ceiling. After a few minutes I couldn’t lie still. I had to keep my mind off my mother.
I called the funeral people and arranged that she should be cremated and that her ashes should be given to me.
After the call I got really restless. Grabbing my coat and bandanna, I left the apartment.
Mindlessly I made my way to Shaw’s office to get my next assignment. I was supposed to come by tomorrow but there was nothing else for me to do but throw myself into my work.
Shaw smiled broadly when he saw me. “I have a big one for you.” He announced as soon as we were in his office.
“Here you go.” He handed me the paper. Unlike the previous times the target was in a folder which were closed by a seal. The seal was in the shape of an X.
I was just about to open the folder to take a look at my target when my phone buzzed. I checked to see that it was Alex. He was back at the apartment and he was wondering where I was.
I texted back that I was just running some errands and that I will be back soon. Throwing the unopened target into my backpack, I thanked Shaw and left.
Before I went up to the apartment, I made sure that my bandanna and the folder was neatly hidden in my backpack.
Alex was waiting by the door. He had a flower in his hand and when I came closer he handed it to me. “I thought it would make you feel better.” He gave me a crooked smile. It did make me feel better. It made me forget that I was really a killer and that my mom had just died.
“Let’s go in.” I said and unlocked the door. When the door was unlocked he opened it for me and I went inside with him closing the door behind us.
Wordlessly, I went to my room to put my bag away. I placed the flower on my nightstand in a glass of water.
Alex stood in the doorway, watching me. “Are you hungry?” I hadn’t realised that it was almost night-time already.
“Yeah, do you want to order a pizza?” He asked already taking out his phone and I just nodded.
“I’m going to take a shower. Make yourself at home.”
I ran the shower as I grabbed clothes. A faded tank top and sweatpants laid on my bed as I climbed into the shower.
After I was squeaky-clean, I pulled on the clothing and padded bare foot into the living room. Alex was sitting on the couch, reading my copy of Withering Heights. I smiled slightly at the sight. He didn’t even notice me until I sat down on the couch next to him.
Looking embarrassed, he set the book down and faced me. His eyes were vivid blue and I seemed to lose myself in them.
“Did you enjoy the book?” I asked and picked it up. It was one of my mother’s books and one of my favourites.
“Uh, yeah.” We both looked up when the doorbell rang. It must be the pizza. Alex got up and paid the delivery guy. I could smell the pizza from the living room, making my mouth water.
“That smells amazing.” I commented when I got into the kitchen. Alex was already taking out plates. I realised that I liked the way he was so at home in my apartment.
“Dig in.” He said handing me a plate. We devoured the pizza like hungry wolves.
When the pizza had completely vanished, Alex got up and gathered our plates. We started doing the dishes.
While Alex washed the last plate he was too busy to notice me aiming for his leg with a dishtowel. When it hit he made a growling noise and spun around. There was amusement and playfulness in his eyes. He grabbed another dishtowel from the counter.
I dodged his first shot, but the next one made a red stipe on my arm. I laughed and struck again giving him a red stripe on his wrist.
I was just about to strike again when he grabbed my wrist and pulled me closer to him. He took a step forward and we were against the fridge. Grabbing my other wrist, he pinned my hands above my head with his own.
I looked from his blazing eyes to his full lips which were turned up in a cocky smile which made my heart melt and my legs turn to gelatine.
He moved closer and his chest pressed against mine. Our heartbeats were almost in unison. His nosed touched mine and his cool breathing tickled my lips. The tension between us could be felt a mile away.
When his lips finally met my own I felt the butterflies returning to my stomach. The kiss was hard and deep.
He pinned my hands with one hand and trailed the other one down my arm until his hand rested in my waist. His fingers left a burning trail. As he kissed me I began to lose control.
I felt my eyes burning, but I fought against the monster with every ounce of my being. I will not hurt Alex.
Alex released my hands and put his other hand on my waist. I hooked my hands around his neck and tangled my fingers into his hair, pulling his closed. There was no space between us.
I could feel his heartbeat through our clothes. I loved the feeling.
Alex pulled my shirt up and his hands glided over my naked lower back. It sent shivers through my body and I moaned softly against his lips. The monster was fighting to be freed but I wouldn’t let it. I wanted to feel Alex’s kisses.
He pulled my legs up around his waist and carried me to my room where he laid me down softly on the bed. As he kissed me I moved my hands over his chest and stomach, feeling the rock hard muscles under his shirt. When I reached the bottom of his shirt I shyly started to lift it up. He noticed it and pulled his shirt of. I ran my hands over his naked torso which were sculpted into perfection.
His lips moved from my mouth to my neck. I shivered as his lips made contact with the soft skin of my neck.
He quickly pulled my shirt over my head and I began to feel shy. He covered my body with his own soon enough and I relaxed again.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” He whispered huskily in my ear. I couldn’t speak so I just nodded and he kissed me again. The kisses were deep and full of passion and I knew that I’ve never felt anything more amazing.
He traced his hands down my sides and I shivered. I was so nervous and my heart felt like it would burst out of my chest. We were both breathing hard and I breathed him in like air.
I felt the monster emerging but it was too late to stop it. I dug my nails into his chiselled shoulders and he growled like and animal. It filled me with more eagerness. I couldn’t control the monster when his hands caressed my body. It was impossible to do anything. As long as he didn’t look into my yellow eyes, we would both be fine.
