The Lie

I took a step further into the room and the smell of antiseptic assaulted my nose making me just a bit light-headed as I turned and inspected the room a little closer.

Close to the window on the other side of the room a chair sat next to a drawer that was slightly open with his clothes folded neatly and placed inside.

"Grab the chair and come over here I want to thank you properly." was what he replied softly but firmly not leaving any room for argument.

He seemed like the kind of guy that always got what he wanted like he didn't know the meaning of no.

I pulled the chair closer to the bed as was his instruction and deposited myself into it making myself as comfortable as possible in the hard chair.

It groaned under my weight as I shifted to find another position in hopes the poor chair wouldn't break in the process.

We sat in awkward silence for several minutes neither one of us really knowing what to say.

He breaks the silence when he clears his throat and then starts to talk.

"Umm so thank you for bringing me to the hospital after almost braining me to death. I really appreciate it. Not many strangers would do that for someone that they don't know let alone tried to kill with a frying pan." With the last part he lets out a very gruff chuckle that sounds odd not really sounding right coming from him.

"How did you get the doctor to give you the morphine button and allow me to come visit I didn't really think it was that serious usually they only allow family back here not complete strangers." I question him as he pushes the button and gets readjusted.

He fakes a cough smirks and throws a wink my way to which I return with a head shake.

"You see I told the nurse you were my distraught girlfriend. I was just trying to surprise my lovely girlfriend for our anniversary when you got home. So I surprised you with rose petals and chocolates everything you girls like. You were showing me just how much you loved everything and was using your mouth to pleasure me." At that he stops and starts to laugh hysterically.

I choke on the spit in my mouth and about pass out thinking about what else he might have lied about.

"So ummm what did you tell them about hitting your head." I question not really sure I want to know.

"Oh yes well I told them that it felt so good I closed my eyes and grabbed your head while moaning. I lasted a good while before you deep throated and I lost it. You swallowed everything and I became a bit light-headed and tripped hitting my head. Now we are here." At the end he sat there with a straight face watching me turn beet red.

My mouth dropped open and I'm sure some drool fell out but I just sat there staring at him not believing he told the nurse that.

I can't find the words to even describe what I'm feeling in that moment.

We sit there for several minutes before he starts to laugh again this time he laughs so hard he starts to cry and grabs his stomach.

"Close your mouth and did you see your face it was priceless. Oh lord I needed that laugh. I couldn't help it you were just asking for that." His laughing starts to subside and he gets comfortable again and pushes the button for another dose of meds.

"I told them that I was trying to surprise you for our anniversary but you came home to early. Thinking I was a burglar you grabbed a frying pan and tried to brain me to death." He started to look around the room before grabbing the nurse call button and pushing it.

There is a ding sound then a nice sounding woman answers ~Hey Mr. Nickeli can I get you something?~

"Yes can I get some chocolate pudding and a drink with a bendy straw." He smiles and pulls the cover up higher on himself like he just accomplished something big.

~Certainly I'll be right there with your stuff. Do you need anything else at all honey?~ He replies with a short little no and the ding is heard.

A few minutes later there is a knock on the door and I walk over and open it for a very skinny woman in a nurses uniform carrying a Styrofoam cup with a bendy straw sticking out the top and a whole package of chocolate pudding cups.

She sits all of it on the food tray and wheels it over to his bed before pulling a spoon wrapped in a napkin from her pocket.

She gets to work opening one of the pudding cups and sticks the spoon in the cup and pulls the tray over the bed making sure he was comfortable and could get to his precious pudding.

She opened the rest of the puddings for him and left them on the tray so he could eat them as well when he finished his first one.

She fluffed his pillows and pulled his blanket up a little higher tucking him in before she left him to eat.

I just sit there watching the whole thing and look over at him with a look of shock on my face to find him smiling and quite happy with the way things turned out while eating his pudding.
