Karola's POV
All my memories from the day before that picture came back to my mind.
I was Eleven when it happened.
Flashback to 2009
On June 2009 once the school year was over, my Dad decided to sent me to Mexico to visit my Grandmother and a couple of other family members that claimed to miss me.
Once there my family took me to visit all the beautiful places where my father grew up and where they had taken me when I was a baby.
I went to the beautiful beaches of Acapulco, and the zoos that are there.
But as always after a while of being there my entire family went back to doing their thing.
My aunt's and uncles would go to work, my Grandma went back to her doctor's appointments and my cousins since they still had school, they returned to classes. And then there was me, most of the time home alone. Not to mention Firulais(My grandma's dog) he even when back to wonder the streets.
I had been home alone during the mornings for about two weeks since the first 2 weeks I was there, it was now July and I was starting to get bored since I didn't know much places to go wonder around in the small town my family lived at.
I didn't cared, I wanted to go out and see more. So I went out, took a cab and told the driver to drive me around the most important places of the town. He asked me if I had enough money to pay him I opened my wallet and said "Sir, I have enough money for you to live a month without working". He looked at me surprised and said "I won't take advantage of you young lady, I charge around $1 dollar to take you places" he said assuring me. I looked over at him with a shocked face and ask him, "how much do you make a day sir?" He looks at my shocked faces and says "around $20-$25 dollars a day."
I couldn't believe someone could be paid so little. I looked at him, I smiled and said "please continue driving, the lunch is on me." He drove off, he took me to the shopping center, and we ended up eating some delicious street tacos that he recommend because they were "the best in town".
When he drove me back home I grabbed my wallet and handed him a hand full of dollars, I didn't know how much it was but I made sure it was enough to pay for his great service. I placed the money on the passenger seat and got off I said thank you he looked at the money and said "you don't have to young lady" a year rolling down his cheek, I looked at him smiling and said "your service is paid off, May God bless you and please continue to be nice to others and do not even erease that smile, promise?" He looked at me happy and said, "I promise, and once again Thank you" I smiled back and went inside the house. He drove off.Later...
It was around 7 p.m. and there was still nobody home.
I went to the bedroom I was staying in, I opened the closet door, grabbed some clean clothes and got in the shower.
After a good 50 minutes shower I dressed up and head to the kitchen to grab a fruit since I was starting to get hungry and I was lazy to cook.I went back to my bedroom, I turned the t.v on and watched this one program called "La Rosa De Guadalupe" until I got bored and turned it off.
I took my phone out of my bag and I dialed my Dad's number, I was sure he was out of work now, but then I decide not to call him and I put my phone aside and got a book a out to read. It was a book in Spanish I bought in a book store in Tijuana before I got in the plane to here Acapulco. It's called "¿Porqué a mi?" from a Brazillian named Valeria Piassa Polizzi. It's about a girl who has HIV and blah blah blah... it very interesting. As I was reading it, I hear noises in the kitchen. I thougjt it was probably one of my cousins, I didn't bother to look, I continued reading, my door was locked so I there was an intruder I had nothing to worry about.
At least that what I thought.
After a while the noises where approaching my bedroom, I was starting to get scared. My heart beat was getting faster, and faster, and faster...
I heared a knock on my door but I stayed quiet and slowly got up from my bed and got inside my bathroom. I locked the door and placed a chair in from of it, I sat on the chair.
After a while the noises where gone, so I got up from the chair slowly, but the dumb chair did not cooperated, it made a loud noise and then my door was pushed open.Revealing there was a young man with a huge grin on his face, I backed away but there wasn't much space, so I ended up hitting the wall. The man slowly got to me and said, "I've been watching you ever since you got here, you will not go until I make you.." that was all I heard before he hit me on the head.
