"Fire burning deep in my eyes, fire burning, burning brighter by the moment. Ready to start this never ending wildfire."
-Wildfire. ( Written by Shea Avery on June 16 2016 )
"Shea Avery speaking." I hustle into the phone as I fumble around with my toothpaste.
"So much for calling me right after." Clem rolls his eyes into the phone all the way to New York City from South Carolina.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry. Hunter and I stayed out wayyy too late and I crashed on the couch before I could even make it up the steps to my bed." I gargle into the phone due to the electric toothbrush currently making my teeth pearly white.
"He is a partier." Hunter pauses to chuckle. "Tell me about your wild night, what dare did he make you complete? Please tell me you had to moon someone like you did to the poor professor."
"And then she ended up being my marketing professor the next semester, she literally greeted me with 'I hope I don't see your bare ass this semester, Miss. Avery.' I had never been so embarrassed in my entire 26 year life. " My worry of the memory is clearly written on my face as I stare at it on the mirror.
"That was your own fault for betting Hunter he wouldn't go take the shot that Dylan spit back into the glass." We both gag at the memory. "So what bet did you place last night? It is never a outing with Hunter without one."
"He bet me I couldn't get the singer to ask me out." I hear a slight awkward silence before Clem speak again.
"One you have a freaking boyfriend and two did you do it?" Clem is just a dad.
" Hell yeah I did, did you really doubt my abilities?" I act offended as I set my phone down and change it to speaker so I can begin to apply my makeup.
"No, not for a second... So when is this date?" Clem inquires and I laugh.
"I denied him, this girl has a ring on her finger." I do the single ladies dance to myself.
"WHAT?! SHEA AVERY DID THAT BOY PROPOSE TO YOU!?" Clem shouts into the phone so loud it makes me draw a giant line of eyeliner across my face.
"Um... no, never, nope." I joke and I grab a makeup wipe to attempt to clean off the eyeliner streak, i'm not a grungy geek. Simplicity is my middle name most days. I'm a nobody and I don't need to stick out with a giant black streak across my face. "But thank you for making me screw up my makeup."
"Oh, wow. Real question would you say yes if he ever asked you?" Clems tone was serious, no jokes, no sarcasm. I ponder the words a few times in my head enough times to forget the question he had just asked. "Come again?" I squeak and rest my hand on the counter looking down at my phone with clem's photo on the screen and the duration of the call.
"If Lucas asks you to marry him. Will you ,Shea Avery, say yes?" I attempt to comprehend the question again. Yes, I love Lucas and yes we have dated for two years but we have also dated for two years and are still living in separate apartments. I just don't see us living together everyday and raising a kid together. I would love to say no, honestly to Clem's question but I spare the long unneeded explanation and reply with a simple "yes."
"Okay that's a good thing to hear. By the way Belle says hello and she hopes you are doing quite well." Clem relays the message on from his girlfriend . I can just hear her high pitched southern voice right now.. and now I need an Advil... pronto.
"Tell her I'm doing well and I hope I can finally see you two soon." I smile and walk down to the kitchen and grab the MUCH needed Advil .
"I know, Shea . It sucks. I haven't seen you in person since college. But our schedules are both so busy and you never want to come back down here , we never find a good time." I huff and plug in my ear buds and began to collect my things into my purse.
