August 1819
Since my last entry we have collected many barrels of whale oil, and I believe that I have come to enjoy my time as captain on the Essex. Despite having plenty of whale oil, we don't have enough to be heading back without being shamed each time we set foot in the streets. Sadly, as of late, the sight of a whale is a rare one and we would be lucky if we were to see one a week. However, things have started to look up for the crew and I. We made a stop at a city that is founded on whaling, the way Nantucket was, and we received a tip in which I believe could send us home early. We were told of a spot that is said to hold the largest whales in which can be found in great numbers. George Pollard signing out.
