“Earth to Tuesday!” Vann was frantically waving his hand in front of my face, trying to get my attention. I turned and stared at him, slightly annoyed.

            “What?”

“We’re here.” He stared at me for a moment before opening his door and getting out. I looked out my passenger side window to see couples holding hands, groups of teenagers, along with parents and their children flocking to the carnival entrance. All of them looked normal.

I was pretending to be at least.

I had to force myself to open my door and follow Vann. I was warring with the voice inside my head, telling myself that the sooner I got out, the sooner I’d have this over with.

I followed Vann to a group of tables set off to the side for people to take a break from the dizzying rides and eat their greasy carnival food. There was a group of four sitting at one of the tables talking animatedly to one another. None of them noticed us walk up.

Vann cleared his throat and one of the girls turned to see where the noise came from. She jumped up and wrapped her slender arms around Vann’s neck. She had an athletic build with dark caramel hair falling in messy curls down her back. She was beautiful. I was surprised.

            Good job brother.

My mouth was still slightly dropped when she finally let go of him and turned to me. She held out a hand for me to shake and I grabbed it awkwardly.

“I’m Sam, you must be Tuesday. Your brother’s told me a lot about you.” Her smile was the kind that you only got from years of braces. I was jealous.

“I didn’t even know my brother was capable of getting a girlfriend.” I told her, looking over at him and smirking. He scowled at me and rolled his deep blue eyes. Sam had stopped shaking my hand by now and was smiling sweetly up at my brother. He smiled back. Puppy love. It was sickening.

Some guy with grey eyes and blonde hair cleared his throat, causing Van and Sam to quickly look away from each other. The guy rolled his eyes and then focused them on me.

“I’m Clyde.” I almost laughed out loud. Biting my tongue, I smiled at him and nodded my head. The small voice inside my head wondered where his Bonnie was. It could be amusing sometimes.

Another girl at the table introduced herself as Lilly, which was short for Lillian. She had light blonde hair and chestnut eyes. She was only a few inches taller than me. The last person sitting at the table never introduced himself. Vann told me his name was Charles and that he didn’t talk much but he was super smart. Top in their graduating class. I looked over at him to see him pushing his black rimmed glasses back up onto the bridge of his nose and watching the people walk past.

He was more antisocial than me. Which was saying a lot.

“So, are ya’ll ready to ride some rides?” Vann asked, looking at Sam hopefully. I rolled my eyes. How much longer until I can go home?

“I say we start out with the scariest ride first, that way we don’t chicken out on the others.” Clyde had his hands cupping the air as if he were discussing war tactics with the general. I couldn’t help but laugh at how ridiculous he was.

“I want to ride the roller coaster first.” Sam looked up at Vann smiling and batting long lashes. She seemed as if she had mastered the look to get my brother to give her whatever she wanted. He stared at her for a moment and grabbed her hand.
