My mother kissed my forehead and my step dad held her as she let go and cried into his shoulder. “Mother, I’ll visit no need to cry.” I stated quietly as she turned around, Michael rapping his arms around her waist. “You didn’t even leave when you were taking college courses online and no my baby is leaving.” She sobbed slightly holding my shoulders and kissing my cheek. I smiled slightly as I lifted her small head off my shoulder. “I needed to get everything together and sort my life out mom I will visit and call as much as I can” I said smiling. “Good-bye Harley” Michael smiled at me and I nodded, “ Good-bye, take care of yourself and mother” I said hugging him from the side. “I love you mother, take care and stay safe.” I said kissing her. “I love you too darling drive safe and visit as much as possible.” She stated wearily and kissed my forehead once more.
Walking out onto the gravel I hopped in my Baby Blue rusty Ford 80’s Pick up and threw my black Converse Duffel bag in the back of the truck. Waving bye I hopped in rolling down the windows and screaming my best regards and loving words to them as I started the engine my mother wiped away tears.
My truck slowly went out of are drive way and drove off. My Step dad had already helped bring everything to the new apartment. The sky was dark and cloudy as small amounts of rain hit my truck so I pulled on the side of the rode taking out all of my bags and putting them in the back seat of my truck. Sitting in my truck and I drove and drove and drove. As I arrived at my small 2 bedroom apartment I turned off my truck grabbing 2 bags and locking my truck. My converse hit the concrete stairs making a scratching sound with each step. Grabbing the keys out of my back pocket I walked down the hallway and get walking till the 15th door and unlocked. Hearing the click noise of the door unlocking and I pushed in. I got lucky and had the last apartment on the hallway on the left side.
Stepping in I looked to the wooden floors and all my furniture set up from the last time I had come. Taking my flip phone out my back pocket I called my mom and instantly went to voicemail. “Just wanted to let you know I got here safely and no need to call back I’ll be going to bed, Love you..Good night” hanging up I set the bags down. Stepping back outside and going back to the truck I pulled out my bags and made several trips till everything was inside. Making sure to lock my truck I arrived back to my door with my last 3 bags. Locking the door behind me I put each bag and box where it belonged and decided I would put everything where it belongs in the morning.
Freighting me I heard a sudden knock on the door causing me to jump. Looking through the peep whole I saw a short medium sized woman around her 50’s. Her long grey hair put into a low ponytail she looked as if she would do no harm so I unlocked the door and opening it welcoming her to come in.
“I saw that you had just moved in and have seen the moving trucks lately and was so happy to see someone like you!” she stated with a sweet voice. “Someone like me?” I questioned with a small half smile at the sweet woman. “Oh just sweet looking and just yah didn’t mean to offend you if I did.” She stated her smile turning slightly down. “Oh dear no just asking.” I smiled at her and she nodded. Me offering her a seat she took it with no problem and gave her a small glass of water. Are conversation went on for around half an hour. I learned she worked at a library that needed a new volunteer to work there and I offered to check it out and also she had lived there for around 22 years and had moved with her husband in there 30’s but he had went to war and died there. Her name was Eve Andersen.
“Well it was nice meeting you but I think I should be catching some shut eye.” She nodded smiling. “If you need anything I’m 2 doors down.“ she smiled I nodded offering a smile before she left. Closing the door and laying my back to the red door I breathed out. Turning around I locked the door, my new beginning.
