No virtues, just pretence
“Hey! Look at you, you are hurt! Come; let's go have some first aid,” One of the girls asked him as soon as he entered the classroom.
Sam stared at her, he was astonished at her words. He had known this world enough, much more than a regular 15 year old. His age had never marred his maturity and he was dead sure about extinction of virtues among humans. Everything they do, has some inherent profit, otherwise they simply ignore, even dying men. But, if she didn't care for him why would she help him? Why was she leaving her studies, just to help him with his bruises? Unable to explain himself the point, he began following her.
“What's your name?” He began with the most obvious question to begin a conversation.
“Oh! I just forgot to acquaint ourselves. Myself Lisa Amane and you?” She answered.
“Sam Danes!” He replied.
They moved from corridor to corridor without a word. Unable to hold himself Sam finally, broke the silence, “Excuse me Lisa, but I needed to ask…”
“So Sam, you can continue down this corridor, on the right side of staff room you will find the first aid room,” She said cutting through his words.
“But where are you going?” Sam asked, startled.
“I feel sorry for your bruises Sam! But my only intention was to get away from Miss Amanda's class. She's so boring. There is lots of surveillance ahead and I don't wanna get caught. Anyway it was nice meeting you,” She replied pretending to be apologetic and then turned away.
“I KNEW IT!” Exclaimed Sam, with joy.
She had answered him without his asking. After all, lesser the words he spoke, lesser they know about him. This was what he wanted, to spend these two years in disguise, complete his plan and bring it to execution.
“Are you mad on me?” Lisa asked him, startled.
“No! No! I just got excited, because my hypothesis proved to be perfectly correct.”
“Hypothesis! Huh! You sound pretty much like Miss Amanda yourself,” Lisa replied.
“I could tell just by looking at you that you could not be a nerd. And now, I have proved myself the point. Just think about attending to those boring physics classes,” Sam tried to hide the real fact.
“Anyway, thanks for escorting me,” She tried to end the conversation and walked away with quick steps, though gracefully.
Sam remained unaffected , not giving her the attention she demanded.
“Thanks, for nothing,” Sam remarked in a low voice, so that she couldn't hear him.
He got his medication and returned to classroom, thinking ill of the world and the way his perfect world would run (which was his favourite pass time).
When he returned to the classroom, he was surrounded by yet another bunch of gossip loving students. They enquired in full about events in the morning, his perfect score and more importantly, his conversation with Lisa.
Sam swore at them silently for every question they asked and then answered them with a winsome smile, as if he was pleased with so much attention. Damn them! Why couldn't they just leave him alone? Again, disgraceful human nature. He swore few more times at them before Mr Barnett, their biology teacher arrived and they took their seats, leaving him to himself. He thanked god and took out his diary, although, he was supposed to take out his notebook.
He set down writing.
'I have already got Mr Barnett on my side. He knows why I am here and he will prove to be a good support system. Lisa is the most hated person here and will play a substantial role in lowering my popularity. I need to befriend her. She has been in this school for years and will give me the information I need about my classmates and the city. I must make my popularity level dip. Further, I should make Parnell seem better than me. The more attention he gets, lesser will I.'
In a week, Sam made sure to gather information about his classmates. He had befriended Lisa which wasn't a difficult job. She was isolated from the class, and in much need of a friend. Sam got every bit of information he needed from her.
He had found his way in this school. He sat in front of Lisa, who sat at least three desks away from others on the window side of classroom. Lisa was a soft target, heartbroken and deserted by her friends. It would be a child's play to get her regards. His decision to seat in that particular position lead to substantial decrease in his popularity. Seeing him writing all the day everyone believed he was a maniac, this was exactly what Sam wanted. This provided him perfect working environment as he braced to start the chase again.
While Parnell was a social being. He hanged out with almost everyone, (Of course, when he was not studying!) even helping them. For Sam, he was an exception to the mankind and he didn't complain. After all, he was helping Sam in keeping his popularity quotient low.
