Hello readers! So this is actually one of my first fanfics that I am publishing. I have actually written quite a few, but I never publish any of them. Let me know what you think, and I may write more!
I decided to write this after I finished the Gilmore Girls revival on Netflix. After the shocking ending, I was curious as to how it would continue, as I'm sure a lot of you were. This is my take on the continuation of the series. Hope you enjoy!
P.S. I know this chapter is kind of boring and slow, sorry about that, things will pick up as the book continues.
"Mom?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm pregnant."
Mom turns to me, her mouth slightly agape. Then she faces forward. She turns to me again, her face clouded with confusion and disbelief. Before she can say anything, she turns to the road again. Several moments pass by.
"Mom?" I repeat. I clasp my hands in my lap and stare at them. "You okay?"
"Yes," she blurts out. "Fine, yeah, sorry, I just wasn't... Expecting... You know..." I shift nervously, waiting for her real response once the shock wore off. "Hey," she says gently, and I look away from my lap to meet her eyes. She's smiling. A bit forced, but still, a smile is better than a scowl.
"You're not mad?" I whisper.
"Oh, trust me, Rory, I'm not the happiest person right now. If anyone knows how hard it is to raise a child by themselves it's me. I always wanted better for you, to get a college education, to use it to pursue something you love. And you did. You're not 16, like I was, you aren't dropping out of high school. I don't want to push you away, either, like my mother did to me. So I will do my best to be the encouraging mom, the loving grandma, and I will help out wherever I can. And trust me, you will love this child with everything you have until your last breath." By now, my eyes had filled with tears. I quickly swiped them away.
"Thank you, Mom," I whispered shakily. She smiled again and pulled me in for a hug.
"I'm always here for you, kid."

"Well, that was quite the wedding!" Mom laughed later that evening.
"Yeah, who knew Kirk could sing? And Boy George songs, no less," I added. "So, a Tahiti honeymoon, huh? You finally get that cruise you've been wanting!"
"I know! Plus Luke gets to enjoy it as well. It'll be like the Stars Hollow pool without the stress of the floaty hut!"
"Hey, you know what?" Luke asked, coming in from the kitchen where he had been cooking and making coffee. Although we had eaten at the wedding reception, Mom and I were still hungry, as usual. And I mean, come on, when isn't a good time for coffee?
"Ooo, I love this game!" Mom said, bouncing up and down on the couch. "Ummmmm, Benedict Cumberbatch decided to change his name to Bernard Cucumberman?" Luke opened his mouth to respond, but I got there quicker.
"Sia doesn't actually love cheap thrills?" I asked innocently. Luke glared at me with irritation.
"President Trump decided to make 'Closer' by Chainsmokers the new national anthem because it's played so often?" Mom added with a grin.
"You two feed off of each other, is the problem," Luke muttered, shaking his head. "I was going to say, maybe we should be leaving now, instead of cooking frozen tater tots?"
"Aw, you're no fun," Mom sighed, but she got up from the couch and began gathering her bags and suitcases.
"How many suitcases do you need?" Luke asked in exasperation.
"Hey, you didn't see the struggles I went trough trying to fit everything I need into one bag," Mom replied. "Never. Again. From now on, I will take as many bags as I please, thank you very much." Luke rolled his eyes, but began taking her bags out to the jeep.
"You guys already act like an old married couple," I laughed.
"Yeah," she sighed happily. "We do, don't we? Bickering and all." Luke loaded everything else into the jeep, then it was time to say goodbye.
"Are you sure you'll be okay?" Mom asked for about the twentieth time.
"Mom," I chuckled. "I'm thirty-two. I've lived on my own for like nine years. I think I'll be okay by myself for a few weeks."
"Yeah, but I mean, with, you know..." She gestured towards my stomach.
"I'm just worried that's all," she said softly.
"Worried about what?" Luke asked. Mom ignored him.
"I'll be fine, really," I assured her.
"Worried about what?" Luke repeated.
"Well, I'm a mom, I'm supposed to worry," she smiled.
"Worried. About. What?" Repeated Luke irritably.
"You can tell him, you know," I said gesturing towards Luke.
"I will," she replied. Grinning, she added, "I'll just make sure we're a safe distance away. At least you-know-who is in another country so Luke can't kill him."
"Kill who? What?" Luke asked again. His patience was beginning to run out.
"I'll tell you in the car, honey," Mom said sweetly.
"I have a feeling I won't be overjoyed at the news," he muttered. I hugged them both.
"Bye Mom, bye Luke. Have fun on your cruise!"
"Thanks, Rory, we will," Luke replied, his face finally cracking into a smile.
"Bye, kid," Mom said, and gave me a tight squeeze. As they went to get in the car, Luke turned to Mom.
"So what is this news you don't want to tell me..." The door slammed, and I couldn't hear them any longer. Mom shook her head, telling him he would have to wait. I waved, and they returned the gesture before driving off to the airport. As I watched their jeep pull away, reality began to crash back down on me. The wedding had put me in a sort of blissful daze, but now a pit of worry began to form in my stomach. I was going to be a mother. And though I was thrilled, the thought also scared me to death.
