Chapter 2
Nandini rushed into the bathroom like her life depended on it. A quick shower later, she stepped out in a bathrobe, flung open her closet, and grabbed her uniform—grey skirt, white shirt, blue blazer, and tie. Braiding her hair in record time, she grabbed her school bag and gave Froogy, her pet frog, a quick peck. "You be good, okay?" she said, even though Froogy, like every other morning, stared back blankly. Downstairs, Mukti was frantically buttering toast like her life depended on that. Nandini approached, ready to say something, but Mukti shoved a piece of toast into her mouth before she could get a word out.
"Eat and go!" Mukti mumbled through her own mouthful, motioning for Nandini to hurry. She was halfway to the door when Nandini grabbed another slice.
"You eat and go!" Nandini fired back with a mischievous grin, stuffing the second slice in her mouth. Mukti shot her an annoyed glare but couldn't hold back a smirk. In true Nandini fashion, she grabbed yet another slice for the road, sauntering toward the door as if she owned the place.
Mukti groaned, grabbing the car keys. "I swear, one day you're going to eat the entire breakfast table."
"And you'll still be late!" Nandini called back, giggling as they rushed out of the house.
SAINT TERESA SCHOOL stood like a fortress, its majestic castle-like exterior complete with golden domes and colorful flags. The morning sun bathed the grounds in golden light as students bustled around, trying to get to their classes before the bell rang. The enormous school bell hung high in the main tower, its chimes signaling the start of another day.
Inside, the school was no less grand: projectors in every classroom, a ballroom for prom nights, rehearsal rooms with thick red curtains, and a massive auditorium where all the important events took place. Today, though, the school's grandest feature was outside—two boys, Abhi and Cabir, huddled behind a wall, trying their best to look inconspicuous.
