The County Fair

Chapter 1

Anna was washing her steer in the heat of the day trying to keep him and herself cool. She couldn't help but catch a quick glimpse of Lane. Lane was one of the best cattle show person Anna knew and she was crazily head over heals for him, but she was pretty sure he had no idea who she was. even though she had attempted to casually run in to him several times, all ending in embarrassing failure. But that was a year ago now her and Lane talk a lot and have become very close. Anna can only hope he makes the first move and asks her dad for permission to date.

Lane ran up behind Anna after she tied up her steer to dry. He picked her up bridal style and Anna had no idea what he was doing so she sat still until She realized he was taking her to the trough. She began to screen "Help me, Lane put me down." She was now kicking and screaming but Lane was really strong from years of hard work and riding bulls here an there. He finally made it to the trough and let go. Anna plummeted into the cold water and got out and she was laughing her head off and she went to tackle Lane but he caught her and just held her for a moment until they both got completely soaked buy someone with the hose and to everyone's disbelief it was Roger, Lanes dad. Roger was very serious an always looked kinda cranky so everyone was shocked when it was him laughing uncontrollably. Anna stepped back because she was embarrassed in front of Roger who her dad was really close friends with.

Anna made the lame excuse "I got to go change," it was her attempt to get out of a very awkward situation. Lane was close to follow offering her a piggy back ride and Anna really considered it but thought better. She wondered how inappropriate it would look to come to camp on Lanes back. Anna said "no thank you I don't want my dad to think anything off it,"

Lane stepped closer wrapping his arms around her waist and asked "you don't want to be around your family together?" he was slightly hurt Lane was ready to take Anna on a date.

Anna replied quickly "no no no it is not like that my dad does not want me dating until I am older, and he will get suspicious."

Lane had quite the temper and stepped back "how do you know I haven't talked to your dad, how do you know he hasn't already given m permission?" Lane walked away upset and Anna was taken aback by his comment she hadn't even thought of that but brushed it off Lane had had a rough week.

Chapter 2

After Anna was changed in to dry clothes she headed to the cattle barn to check on her steer and heifer both were content for the time being. She found Lane talking to Jess the daughter of the guy Roger works for. Anna immediately turned on her heels she wanted to get away from their. unfortunately she was not quick enough for Lane caught sight of her and was fast on her trail. She reached the horse barn in the far stall hoping he would not find her. except Lane knew Anna FAR to well he stopped exactly were she was he entered not asking for permission. but he knew if he did it would not be granted.

Lane began to explain "I was just telling Jess about your amazing barrel run yesterday,"

Anna replied softly "how do I know that, you and her dated for three years how do I know you guys don't want to get back together. seriously she has it all money, pretty, and just is better."

Lane scooted closer to Anna and put his arm around her an began "That couldn't be farther from the truth you are gorgeous not just pretty, gorgeous. yes she may have money but that is not you. I don't care about money it comes and goes, I want you. Anna will you please go with me to the rodeo and dance after wards?"

Anna stuck her head in the crook of Lanes neck and began to cry just a little. She softly whispered "yes yes yes, and I am really sorry." Lane replied "don't be" they sat together for awhile holding each other but finally a crash in another stall broke the silence. they both jumped to their feet and ran out of their stall to seat what th commotion was. they ran around the barn checking all the horses Anna found Lena. Lena was Lanes horse that he just began breaking. Anna called for Lane to come over. Lane stepped into the stall cooing, "don't worry it's gonna be alright. Anna go get my dad he should be in the beef barn." Anna stepped out of the stall and ran to hers and grabbed her horse and hastily jumped on bareback. Anna kicked her black and white paint into a lope. She knew it would be faster to get there even though it was only a little ways.
