The sound of the school bell filled my ears and glanced up to my students. "Remember, mid terms are Thursday before the Christmas break. Be sure you study." I said as I slowly rose from my desk.  "You are dismissed." The students all flooded out of the room.

All except one

Tiffany Hendrix was one of my most timid and quiet students. The only time I ever saw her mouth open was when she was singing. She never talked to any of the classmates or to any of teachers on the campus. She mostly stayed to herself and that was all.

She was a pretty girl.  She had a round face that was always I'm the shadow of her long straight brown hair. Her eyes were big and brown with long eyelashes that overshadowed. She never smiled but I could tell by the way she stretched her lips when someone was talking to her that she had deep dimples on both side of her cheeks. She stood up from her desk holding her binder up against her chest as she walked up to me." Ms. Walker?" her voice was so soft almost like a feather falling on the floor; you could barely hear it.

"Yes, Can I help you Tiffany?"

"Um, I was wondering if I could take my test a little bit early, I won't be here on Thursday."

I gave her a heart warming smile. " Yes, of course!" I said as I turned to my planning book to see if I had a spot open for to come. "Are you taking Christmas vacation early this year?"

"No," she shook her head quickly. " I just won't be here."

I glanced up at her then back down at my planning book." You can come during my planning period on Tuesday, does that sounds good?"

She shook her head." I won't be here then either."

I sighed and glanced back down at my book. "Okay...how about....Monday?" I looked up at her, raising my eyebrows.

She stretched the right corner of her mouth showing her dimple. " That's fine." she said softly. "Thank you." she turned and walked out the door.

I stared back to where she had left and sighed before grabbing my bag from by my chair and my briefcase. I checked the room to make sure the keyboard was turned off and all the chairs where pulled up under the desks. I then walked a crossed the hard floor and cut out the lights.

Heading down the hall one of the teacher a came up to me. "Ms. Walker?" He smiled showing all his teeth. It was David Evans. He had had this crush on me since I stepped foot on the campus, and anytime he could he would try to ask me out whether it was in the teacher's lounge, or in the parking lot at school.

"What do you want Dave." I asked, trying not to be rude but the sigh gave it away.

"I was wondering if you weren't-"

I rolled my eyes. " David, I told you last week that I wasn't going to go out with you. What makes you think I would do it now."

"I don't know," he shrugged. " You were in a rush last week so I was thinking that maybe you just said no to get me out of your hair."

I turned to the next hall. " No, David. I said no because I honestly don't want to go out with you." I said.

"Why not?"

I stopped in front of the school doors that lead out side and turned to face him." Because I don't date self-indulgent, conceited algebra teachers. " I opened the door and head down the steps.

"Okay, okay I guess I deserved that."

Oh my God, would you leave me alone! I continued walking until I got my car I opened the back seat and through my bags in and slammed the door.
