twigs snapped beneath yoongi and jeongguk's feet as they thoroughly searched through the trees and foliage. after finding the ring which belonged to jimin, yoongi had been avidly looking for the boy.

"if you ever get tired while we're out here, let me know and we'll head back to the truck and then i'll take you home," yoongi told jeongguk as he flashed the light in his hand around.

"what about you, hyung?" jeongguk asked. "are you going to go home after that?"

yoongi immediately shook his head. "no, probably not. i'll most likely come back here to look some more."

"you can always come back tomorrow, you know."

"yeah, but i don't sleep much anyway. might as well do something worthwhile," yoongi explained.

jeongguk sighed, but nodded, knowing that he wouldn't be able to change the older boy's mind. feeling as if the mood had turned a bit depressing, jeongguk quickly thought of something to pick it back up. "so hyung, did i tell you that i applied to volunteer in the art center at the children's hospital?"

"no, you didn't. when did you do that?"

"a little over a week ago," he replied. "i haven't really brought it up because i didn't know if there were anymore spots left and i hadn't been approved or denied yet."

"i see... well, have you found anything out yet?" the boy didn't mean to sound so disinterested, but his brain was rattled and he had a mission.

grinning, jeongguk slung an arm around yoongi's shoulders. "yep! just found out earlier today that i was approved! i start volunteering on monday."

"that's awesome, gguk." yoongi flashed him a small, congratulatory smile. "i know you've been wanting to do something like that for a while. i'm glad you're finally getting the chance to do it."

"thanks hyung! i'm pretty excited if i'm being honest. eventually, i don't want to just volunteer. i want to be working there full time."

"what exactly do you want to be again?"

"a pediatric nurse or a surgical oncologist, i'm not completely sure which one yet."

yoongi nodded slowly, acknowledging that he was listening. "well whatever you decide to do, i'm sure you'll be great at it."

"thanks," jeongguk bashfully replied, feeling his cheeks warm up. "that means a lot."

"no problem," yoongi mumbled, still shining his flashlight all around to find any sort of sign or jimin, or even the boy himself.

as they continued to walk, they heard a loud snapping sound, coming from what sounded like a twig or tree branch. both of the boys flinched at the unexpected noise and then pointed their flashlights in the direction it had sounded from.

"what the hell was that?" yoongi muttered to himself, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion and slight fear.

"why don't we go look? maybe it's jimin!" jeongguk blurted out, hope laced within his words.

"it might be, but it might not be. it could be some sort of animal or something. i highly recommend we don't go that way."

"but hyuuung," jeongguk whined, his lips forming a pout.

"no, gguk. now come on." yoongi was stern in his tone, making sure jeongguk knew that he was serious.

with a disappointed sigh and hunched shoulders, jeongguk reluctantly agreed and continued to walk with the older boy.

fifteen minutes of silence later, yoongi heavily sighed. "jeongguk, i don't see him anywhere.. do you even think he's here?" he questioned the younger boy.

silence.

"gguk?" he called the boys name out once again.

still, silence.

"where the hell did you go?!"

yoongi whipped his head around quick, frantically trying to spot jeongguk. he flashed the light in his hand in every single direction, looking for any sort of trace of the boy or which direction he may have went. but it seemed as if he had just disappeared, leaving yoongi lost and alone in the woods.

"this is just great. jimin is already missing, and now i've lost jeongguk.. what am i going to do?"

authors note:
hey guys! thanks for being patient with me! i have a really random, sucky update schedule, i know, but i'm going to try and work on that!

in the meantime, i hope you enjoyed this chapter! i wanted to expand more on the characters and their backgrounds a bit, so i hope you didn't mind that!

also, i deleted the epilogue chapter and used some of the text from it in this chapter instead of just repeating it.

so, yeah. let me know what you all think!
