Oli.
"Listen, I know it's last minute, and I know I may not be very responsible, but I told her I would adopt her and I'm a man of my word." I argued with my manager over the phone for a good 15 minutes before he finally cracked.
"At least tell me about her, Oli, I'm not just going to let some random kid come on tour with us." Robert, Bring Me the Horizon's manager said.
"Her name is Tristan Lee Merrick, she's a big band addict, I swear half her shirts are band tee shirts. She's got a huge dog named Candy who I swear could eat someone. She'll be fine coming with us Bob, trust me." I said, shaking my head as he continued to argue. "Bob, I'm taking her whether you like it or not." I finally put my foot down.
"Fine, but Oli, she's a human being, you can't just take her back if she becomes to much."
"I know Bob, listen she's almost finished, so I'll have to go. See you in a month." I said, hanging up the phone and walking back into Tristan's room.
"CANDY LOUISE LET GO OF MY BLINK SHIRT THIS IS MY FAVORITE. BAD DOG. BAD." She yelled, trying to pull the shirt from her mouth, she succeeded and folded up the shirt and put it in her suitcase.
"There, that's the last of those. Hey Oli, can you fill this with the stuff on my book shelf?" She asked, handing me a small bag.
I nodded and walked over and sat in front of the bookshelf. I placed novel after novel in the bag and then came across a small photo album. Tristan had gone downstairs to grab a snack so I could snoop for a bit.
I flipped over the cover to find a hand written note.
"Dear Tristan, I love you so very, very much and I know how difficult it's been for you since your parents passed and now that we can't care for you anymore but here are a few bright memories before Jordan left. We love you baby.
~Grammy and Gramps."
I smiled to myself as I read the small note and opened the first photo. It was an older man and a small blonde girl, who I assumed was Tristan, sitting underneath a tree. The sun shone on each of them and they had wide smiles. The second photo was a couple at their wedding, a short blonde woman and a lanky brunette man, I guessed these were Tristan's parents.
"I miss mum and dad." I jumped and looked behind me. Tristan stood over my shoulder, smiling lightly at the picture.
"I'm sorry, I was just curious."
"Not a problem Oli, I like looking at these."
We flipped through a few more, one of her and her grandfather roasting marshmallows, another of her and her brother Jordan. Soon enough we came to the end of the little book.
"We'll make memories like those too, I promise." I said, closing the little book and putting it in her bag.
"I hope so." She grabbed the bag, now filled with novels, and put it on top of her suitcase.
"I think I'm ready." She said, standing on her bed and taking down the last poster that was stuck on her now empty walls.
"Alright, that means we've got a two hour car ride and then the plane." I said, calculating how long we'd be on the plane.
"Wait, where am I going?" She asked in a timid voice.
"To Ashford in England. Is that okay?" I asked, now realizing that she might want to stay in America.
"Yeah, I've just never been on a plane." She was quiet again as I grabbed her suitcase and she took her bag and duffle.
"You'll be fine, I'll keep you safe tonight." I said as we walked down the stairs and out to the car.
"Goodbye Mary, thank you for everything." She said, giving her a long hug.
"Bye Tristan, I'll miss you." Grace said, waving us off.
"Goodbye old life." Tristan whispered as we got in the car and drove off, leaving the orphanage in the dust.
