Patrica wasn’t stupid. Indeed, she thought herself to be among the top 10 percent of the world in both looks and brains. This only made it more embarrassing that she’d made such a massive error in her thinking.

It had been so logical. Perfection was difficult to achieve. So she should look for it close to her own circumstances. Josh had been the last possible candidate in the family, but he too had shown his imperfections.

But perfection had finally shown itself. This was why Mortimer had granted them freedom, Patricia knew it for certain. Yes, she had found evidence. She should thank Jess for going out together; it had given her the proof she’d wanted. It had been when they returned to the car and go home. A man, the most beautiful man Patricia had ever seen. The epitome of perfection. He had seen her too, but neither of them had spoken. It was a moment like the one she’d seen in movies. She had met her soulmate, Patricia had known that ever since. They would meet again by chance, surely. Destiny had already provided for her future. Mortimer had never made a mistake; it was for sure he had left her marriage undecided on like this; she would find the perfect husband herself. She wasn’t like Jess, who had to be taken care of. Yes, what kind of man would Jess come home with if left to her own devices?

So it was only natural that she could not stop thinking about the strange man. About his face, his hair, his clothing, his hands, all of him. She could not wait until the day they’d meet again.

And of course her mother didn’t understand it. Why did Patricia want to go outside so much? No, it was better to get used to the outside world slowly, with all the dangerous diseases and all. Patricia suspected her mother was simply too old to get adjusted to the new world that had opened up before them and was simply reflecting that on Patricia. Of course her mother didn’t understand; she had probably never been in love. Her marriage had simply been an organised one, and her husband had already left her. She would never understand the true meaning of love.

Unlike Patricia, who knew all about it. Chance encounters, kissing, that was all love was about. Find the perfect husband and live happily ever after. What more was there for her to seek in this world? As long as she could live the perfect life, there was nothing more for her to wish.

But of course the adults couldn’t understand the need for perfection; they were all imperfect and could never hope to attain something to grand.
