I drew an ‘X’ over todays date on the calendar and a wide smile grew across my face.
“One more day” I said to myself. Everything was so different without her. We went from seeing each other every day to not seeing each other at all. I couldn’t imagine my life without her and I couldn’t get her out of my head.
It was at that moment that I realized I hated days without her and I never wanted to have one of those days again. My heart fluttered at the idea that had popped into my head. I found Liam in the living room playing video games.
“Hey man, can I ask you something?”
“Yea sure.” His eyes didn’t leave the screen
“How did your dad know your mum was the one”
He set his controller down giving me his full attention.
“she wasn’t the one remember?” His voice held a joking tone.
“You know what I mean…when he asked her to marry him how did he know that’s what he wanted?”
“I don’t know. He used to tell me that they were sitting in the park one day and the way the sunlight hit her he just knew” He seemed lost in the thought of his parents, together and happy. “why?” he pressed.
“Because I think I know how to get Hannah to talk” My smile widened.

“You’re crazy! That’ll never work…” Kennedi shook her head. Liam sat next to her at the island in their kitchen. I sat across form her as I told her my plan.
“Yes it will. Just listen” Liam encouraged. The smile on my best friends face settled my nerves.
“I want to ask your sister to marry me and I’m hoping she says yes with words…not just a head nod”
Kennedi looked less than convinced. Her arms folded across her chest.
“I love your sister so much; I really want to do this.”
“What if she still doesn’t say anything? What if it pushes her over the edge and she freaks out and she never speaks again…what if she doesn’t want to” Dee threw her doubts at me and to be honest she had a right to. Hannah was the only thing she had left. Liam swung his arm around her.
“Babe I understand to don’t want your sister to hurt any more. That’s why I think this could work” She looked up at him hesitantly.
“I promise to talk to her doctors and make sure it’s ok” I assured. Kennedi only sighed. I could tell she wasn’t convinced so I continued.
“Kennedi, your parents aren’t around so you are all she has. I’m asking you for your sister’s hand in marriage”
