Carter's POV

~Abandoned~

I sat on the small wooden docking station that has been unused for as long as I can remember. We were now living in my grandfathers old summer house, the one my mom grew up in. Dipping my feet into the cool water, I scanned the familiar lake in front of me. I was alone, at the moment. My dad and my mom were both working. They worked a lot, actually. My dad is a cop, and my mom works in a boring office as a secretary. I rarely see them, if even at all. But I tend to keep myself busy with the one thing I love. Video games.

Music, too. It keeps me entertained and occupied all the time, and I never grow tired of it.

Growing quite bored with my surroundings, I stepped up and walked back up to the house. I dried my feet with a towel I laid out for myself on the porch railing, and stepped inside.

The whole house reminded me of home.

Before this, we lived in a smelly, gross apartment with many dangerous people living there, too.

But when my grandfather passed, the house was handed to us. Though my uncle, my mom's brother, would love to live here, he couldn't because his wife "didn't approve" of living in the woods.

Oh, how I hate the way she always rules his life.

I walked upstairs to me room, my room was one of the guest rooms, it was pretty large in size, which was good because I have a lot of stuff. I've got desks and boxes filled with wires, chords, and chargers, my closet has my clothes and some old game systems I haven't hooked up yet or the hand-held ones I don't use too often.

I had my desk that had my laptop, monitor that I watch movies on, and a a tv that I have my Nintendo 64 hooked up to.

I had a couple of magazines on my floor along with game cartridges.

My green headphones were sprawled across my bed in knots and tangles.

My iPod and phone were both laying on my pillow, and my radio sat next to my window, which was currently turned off.

Yes, I know. I have A LOT of stuff, but if I ever grow tired of this stuff I can sell it in the future and make some really good money.

Even though my parents say no one wants to buy all of this "useless junk" anyways.

I, and others in the world, happen to enjoy gaming. I wish I could tell them that I could even go into video game designing when I'm older, but they're always too busy or in they're own conversation to listen to me.

I'm basically living on my own, in my parents house.

Which makes no sense, right?

I closed my window and curtains to darken the room a tad, and fell back onto my bed. I put my tangled headphones on and plugged in my iPod. I pushed 'shuffle' and listened to Katy Perry.

I soon fell into a light sleep, not noticing that I wasn't alone, in the empty house.

----

And so, I woke up in the morning, I had slept a really long time this time...

I stood up and yawned a little too loudly. Walking over to my window, I wrapped a blanket over my shoulders.

Today was yet another beautiful summer day, so I dropped the blanket on my floor and walked down the steps, both of my parents were, of course, gone. I felt so.. Abandoned...

I walked out the door and onto the warm grass under my bare feet.

Once I reached the mailbox I was hoping and praying for that one letter. That one simple folded envelope marked; To Carter, from Mason.

My older brother who had already started college, but never got to see me anymore..

I opened the mailbox eagerly, only to find a small package inside...

And no letter..

"Damn it!!!" I screamed, kicking a tree next to me. I angrily grabbed the smell package and stormed inside. I slowly calmed down, just a I heard the floor creaking behind me. I turned my head quickly towards the living room, nothing.

"Huh.." was all I said. I walked upstairs, as I heard the light purr of a cat. I walked into my room and saw the stupid stray on my bed.

"Here kitty.. Come here.." I cooed softly, reaching my hand towards it.

The cat obviously thought I was trying I attack it, so it turned towards me and bit my thumb.

"Hey! Damned cat, I'm trying to feed you!!" I shouted.

The cat turned back to cleaning its paws.

"Get off my bed stupid thing.." I poked it and hissed at me. I yanked it off the bed onto the floor,"If you wanna starve, fine! But go somewhere else and quit being a bother to me!" I kicked it lightly towards the stairs.

The cat gave me a nasty look, and seemed to groan quietly. And then, jumped back on my bed.

I sighed. It must've got in when I left the door opened.

"You're so hard to get along with. No wonder you're a stray.." I remarked, walking downstairs to the kitchen.

I got out a piece of raw fish from the fridge as I noticed the cat about a foot away from me, watching what I was holding. "Here.." I laid it on the floor and stepped back.

The cat looked at me and made a quiet hissing sound, and approached the raw fish. After investigating it, she did eat it, and licked her paws once again.

I gave it a slight smile and poured some water in a little bowl and gave it to her.

I then walked back upstairs, the cat was now following me. Great..

I sat on my computer chair and opened the package.

The cat jumped up and sat on my lap, curious on what was in the package. I let her lick my fingers from the fish, it felt so weird. It's tongue was like wet sandpaper.. I shuddered and continued opening the package. It was a small cartridge, it looked like a game for the Nintendo 64, and scribbled across the front, in a black marker, was the word "Majora"

"Majora..? Like Majora's mask."

The cat hissed at cartridge and swatted it on the floor.

"Hey.. What's wrong? It's only a video game, dummy.."

The cat tilted his head as I picked it up. I placed it on my desk, and picked up my laptop. I searched "Majora's Mask" since I had never played it, on Google, and looked through the pictures. The game itself looked amazing, and when I maximized a picture of Link, the car patted the screen with her paw on Link's head.

I giggles at her,"You like Link?"

She meowed and rubbed her nose over the screen,"Okay okay.." I pulled her back from the screen,"That's what I'll name you, then. Link."

She licked my hand as if responding with,"Yes, I like that name." and curled up on my lap.

Well, at least now I'm not completely alone.
