Chapter 4
Carter's POV
For awhile, everything was black.
But soon, I started to dream.
But it seemed more of a memory being replayed.
*Beginning of memory*
"Help!! Help me!" my 4 year old self shouted as I splashed around in the water, fearful of sinking in.
It was early morning, but no one heard me.
I sprawled my arms everywhere until I sank down.
I tried and tried to reach the surface again.
But I was too far from it..
I then decided to give up, and wait for death to over come me.
I closed my eyes as my limp body sank,
when I felt someone grab my hand.
They pulled me up to the surface, it was a boy, bare feet, long sleeve green shirt with a matching hat and blonde hair and bleeding eyes.
I fell limp in their arms as they laid me on the soft, moist sand.
"You almost met with a terrible fate.. but I saved you." Their voice sounded comforting.
"Never forget me. For I will be back."
I coughed and closed my eyes, the boy was now gone.
*End of memory*
I woke up with a terrible pain in my leg, and I looked up.
I was in my room, and I had stitches on my leg.
I had always been afraid of water, though I was able to touch it. Never have I been swimming. And now I know why.
But Ben saved me..
Ben...
I rubbed my eyes and sat up, Ben was sitting against my door, knees pulled to hi chest, and his face hidden.
"Ben?" I called softly.
His head shot towards me, and he ran up to me and hugged me tightly,"I thought I lost you..." his voice sounded as if it would break.
I didn't know what to do, but when I looked up I saw that more blood had ran down from his eyes,he was crying.
I reached my hands up and wiped the blood away, but it just kept spilling down his cheeks.
"Ben--"
"Shh.. just... Shh..." he interrupted.
He seemed really scared, so I hugged him back.
He eventually stopped crying, and nuzzled his head in my neck.
I smiled, and gave a small giggle at the feeling of his breath on my neck.
-1 week later-
My parents had gone on a business trip for two weeks, starting today, and, thank God, the hadn't found out about my leg. And I didn't limp as much, but Ben has insisted on carrying me anywhere and everywhere.
Currently, we were on the couch watching a movie, but I couldn't have focused on it even if I tried.
My head was pounding, and the light coming from the window next to me wasn't helping, so I made a small shield with my hand to block it the light the best I could.
Ben I instantly looked at me when I groaned,"Are you okay? What's wrong? Are you in pain?" he questioned me quickly and leaned over to me. He was extremely worried.
