I sat on our cafeteria table the Monday morning after the homecoming dance. I looked at Lance and just thought, how could he be such a player? I was told that he kissed several other girls the other night... thank God I didn't see those other kisses. It's not like I needed him in my life or he was my life but there was something about him that I just couldn't forget. He sat one table away from ours with his friends, guy and girl friends, that hugged him and squished his cheeks and acted like sluts around everything that had looks, abs, and a male reproductive system. Lance just sat there, sometimes looking at me straight to the eyes. Those perfect eyes that, though they were hidden behind the lenses of his glasses, when the light hit them the reflection seemed as if they were a lighter tone of brown. I caught myself tangled in his eyes and looked down at my phone, which I had just placed on top of the table. I was waiting to see if Alexa or Elyssa texted me. On Monday mornings we had different classes though we were in the same classroom so we saw each other during the snack period.
"Hey Scar" Alexa said as she sat on next to me on the small bench "where's Elyssa?"
"She hasn't shown up. Maybe she got caught up in hallway traffic" I teased.
Suddenly Alexa's eyes drove off from her food and to the table I was just looking at. I knew what or who she was looking at. This was the thing with Alexa, since she and James hadn't known each other so well she only dreamed of having the chance to at least get to know the guy. It wasn't that she was obsessed with him but she just really wanted to meet him.
"Earth to Alexa, someone there?" I chuckled as I waved my hand in front of her eyes so she would snap out of it.
"Sorry" she laughed and looked at the floor "it's just that I can't believe this is their senior year, their last, and we have no chance whatsoever of at least talking to them" I kind of nodded. She was right and sad as it was, I felt the same way.
"I'm so going to kill him!" I heard Elyssa's voice as she sat across of us filling the round table with all her depression foods; cookies, juice, candy, and her toast. That was the thing with Elyssa, she was petite and slim like me but she ate a lot, specially when she had trouble with someone.
"Who? Why?" I asked.
"Carter! Remember the girl he took home the night of the homecoming?" she was hysterical. Alexa and I nodded in approval, "well she is Fleur, the one that was once with him and guess what? They are fucking back together!"
"Elyssa where did you get so much information?" Alexa asked taking a bite from her toast.
"People are talking about the homecoming dance like crazy! I know he isn't my boyfriend but I just can't believe them. They sit there as the players they are and are proud about it" Elyssa sighed and put a hand on her forehead "wanna hang out tonight at my place? My folks have double shift at the hospital and I don't want to stay home alone"
"Yeah, sure let me call my mom" I said. Alexa did the same.
We called our mothers and since our moms are really close they said yes. After several minutes the bell rang and we headed up to our lockers. The day went by incredibly slowly but we managed to survive it. After school we left with Elyssa. We were home alone since her mom dropped us off at her place and left for her shift.
"Come on girls let's go watch a movie" she said as she entered her room.
I scanned her movie rack in search of something to watch. Titanic, too tragic. The Perks of Being a Wallflower, too slow. Taken, too much action. Mr. & Mrs. Smith, not the right movie to give to 3 girls who want to at least run over 3 guys.
"Hey how about this one?" I said as I grabbed the movie John Tucker Must Die from the shelf "we haven't watched this in ages"
"Yeah put it on" Alexa said as she grabbed a couple of pillows and dropped them to the floor for us to rest on.
