"Sit still, I'm not done Agnella" Alexa said as she arranged Agnella's hair into a half ponytail. Agnella was a member of the cheer team, she was a beautifully elegant colored girl with wavy black hair. She was my co-captain; she really knew how to dance so she earned her spot. She was a nice girl until she was pulled into pressure, yeah that's right; she loved to take the lead sometimes.
I chuckled silently as I saw Alexa fighting her way to get Agnella's hair into the right hairdo. I continued applying my makeup. It was finally Pep Rally night and the nerves were set on high. We were the opening act and to say the truth the whole team was really nervous. I helped Elyssa with her makeup and then did the final arrangements on the other girls.
"Um, hi, uh you're on in 10 girls" a freshman said as he entered our room.
"Thanks" we all answered in choir as we smiled politely.
The boy waved shyly and then shut the door. This was it.
"Alright everybody, let's get out there and do our thing. Remember head high, lots of projection and smiles, and enjoy it. Keep in mind that the court out there is ours and no one will take it from us" I told the team as I observed their faces relax.
"Let's do this" Elyssa yelled and the rest of the team began yelling with her.
We ran upstairs and into the courts. There were a lot of people there, parents, students, teachers, teams from other schools, and who know who else. We all positioned ourselves in our spots, took a breath and heard our music begin. We danced with a lot of energy; it's like when I dance I can actually express what I'm sometimes scared of saying out loud. I can be the fearless girl who isn't insecure and goes for what she wants. I can be me.
The music continued as we shifted positions and got tossed in the air. The crowd went wild every time we did some flying and at times attractive moves that were sexy yet reserved. Finally the moment of truth, I eyed Elyssa as she stood right in front of me. She nodded back and we began the almost impossible to achieve stunt... the double dragon. We were cradled, stood up, bent, and in a matter of seconds tossed from one side to the other at the same time and landed perfectly. WE DID IT! When the music was over we saluted the crowd and headed t the practice room.
"I can't believe we did it!" Elyssa screamed as she hugged me. I hugged her back and smiled in agreement. The team was very excited, this was our first big stunt ever.
"That was great guys and since we all did great tonight take the rest of the night off but tomorrow we cheer for our team at 11:00 A.M. sharp" I said.
They all thanked me and started changing. As representation of the school it was our duty to stay uniformed so all we did was remove the skirts and put on shorts and removed the long sleeve undershirt and stayed with our team top. We left the shoes and the bow on and ditched the pompoms. We were just applying some lip gloss and fixing our hair when Alexa entered panting.
"Hey, what happened you saw a ghost?" Elyssa asked grabbing her small book bag and tossing it on her back.
"Scarlet, Lance and the boys are right at the exit of the courts!" she stated.
"But the courts don't have an exit just the entrance" I said back.
"Yeah they do, the back door we use to sneak in food. The back door that is literally ten steps away from here" she replied.
SHIT! We all grabbed a chair and put it next to the wall. We stepped on it and peaked through the lightly opened windows. You see our back door was so close to our practice room that you could see outside from it. They were all there, looking as handsome as ever but they weren't alone. They were with the rest of the crew. We all got down and breathed.
