Olivia parked her car in front of the house. She thought of what she was about to do, wondering if attacking her sister would do any good in getting her to tell her where she had taken her daughter to.
She came down from the car and went to the bungalow. She knocked and waited. She scanned the small garden, a couple of toys were scattered about and there was lawn mower.
The door opened minutes later and she looked at the woman ready to receive. She blinked twice and tears gathered in her eyes.
"How could you do this to me Freda?" Olivia sobbed.
Freda pulled her into a hug. "I didn't do anything to you, you hated me so much."
They stood there locked in each other's embrace for a while before Olivia pulled away. Indeed she hated her sister for talking too much.
She welcomed her into the house and offered her a glass of water.
"Are those your children?" Olivia asked looking at the picture of two boys and a girl that hung on the wall.
Freda nodded. She sat opposite her sister and watched her as she looked steadily at the picture, she saw something in her sister's eyes that showed her fear, her sadness.
"What's wrong Olive?" Freda asked slowly. "Are you okay?"
Olivia turned to her. "How can you expect me to be? Freda I've been barren. For years now."
Olivia expected her to be surprised. To show it on her face that she was shocked but Freda was calm. As though she knew all along of her sister's inability to conceive.
"You know." Olivia asked in shock.
"Mum told me."
Olivia scoffed. Freda and her mother happened to be a good pair when it comes to talking. She was the reserved one, the one who was always scared.
"I want to find my daughter." Olivia said trying to forget the fact that she was angry that bot Freda and her mother had used her as a topic and elaborated on the fact that she couldn't conceive.
Freda rubbed her arms with her hands and glanced at Olivia who was still looking at the picture on the wall. "How do you intend to find her?"
"You shouldn't ask me that Freda. I have no reason whatsoever to come to your house if it wasn't because of this issue."
"Oh, so you came here for something else other than a peace offering?"
"Offering for what? Freda you broke my trust. You blabbed about everything to Dad, to Mum.... "
"They forced me to tell them!"
"You promised me not to."
"They are our parents."
"And I'm your sister. Your only sister, yet you hurt me and you disappeared. You never was bold enough to face me again because your conscience kept judging you. You got married and had three kids, Freda. Three. Yet you couldn't call me or text me." Olivia said those words slowly wanting them to pierce her sister's heart. "If there was any promise you had to keep it was that single promise you made."
"I'm sorry." Freda said brushing off a tear that escaped from her left eye.
Olivia cleared her throat and squeezed her hands in between her laps. "I need my own child. I'm childless and I think it's because of the issue of me giving my baby up."
"Don't say that."
"Where did you drop her."
"We'd have to go back to those woods." Freda said. "On Saturday, I hope it's okay by you."
"Santayn is only a two hour drive. We can get there...... "
"I have children to look after and a husband to cook for. " Freda said looking away from her sister's stare.
Olivia felt something rush within her. She didn't know if her sister was trying to rub it in her face that she had no child. She had a child, that's somewhere within that state, growing up without her mother and it stung her.
"What are you trying to say?"
Freda looked back at her. "Don't get me wrong okay. Don't. I will go with you during the week. Not today. I can't leave without my husband knowing exactly where I'm going to. Or my kids staying without a nanny or something."
"Okay." Olivia nodded with a shrug. "Saturday then." She stood up to go, her car keys jingled as she reached for her bag.
"I didn't even offer you anything... "
"Because you didn't want to." Olivia said quickly with a smile.
Freda swallowed. Her sister wouldn't change, she always had a way of annoying people. That was why she got used in the first place.
"It's not that. We were talk..."
"Save it Freda. I have to go to work." Olivia said going towards the door. She pulled the knob and went out.
Freda scoffed and murmured inaudibly. She was the younger one and she had received so much maltreatment from Olivia. Olivia mocked her infront of her friends when they were still in High School. She frustrated her and made her hate herself. She had never changed, she still remained that rude and annoying girl she had known all her life.
She went to the window and watched as Olivia's car zoomed off into the street.
"Idiot." She cursed under her breath. She loved her sister but she hated that Olivia would stop at nothing to get what she wants. She could kill millions of people, and anger a whole lot more than that if ever she needed anything that was of no importance to anybody but herself.
