My books scattered everywhere as I fumbled to catch them all before they fell. Multiple thuds could be heard down the hallway and I groaned as I reached to pick them up. I was carrying twice as many books today and that equaled my doom of walking correctly. Most of the books were heavy and large making it awkward to handle them while fast walking down a hall. My teachers decided that the more work we had at the beginning of the school year the better and I watched as my life got a little crazier. As the books hit the ground a few of the kids in the hallway laughed then got pushed or smacked upside the head by others that whispered, "Shhh, he's one of the four. Rylan will have your head." At hearing this I groaned once more and continued on through the hallways of Crest Academy.
The corridor was filled to the brim with bustling students; kids everywhere from twelve years old to eighteen were rushing to the dining hall. Mid Afternoon feast was being served and the grumblings of everyone's stomachs made us all come together. Most of the people here could care less that they were in a private boarding school for the best of students, but when the food came out they thanked their lucky stars they received that letter welcoming them to this school with open arms years ago. The dining hall was massive in size; holding up to about 1,700 kids in one area. The walls had a dark red that painted them and every window had a glass pane with amazing pictures. Five long tables that expanded the whole width of the room were covered in white linen. The head table was on a high platform, and seated up there were the professors and the headmaster showing off the school crest; three high towers surrounded in swirls of our school colors: red and white.
Walking into the school made you blink twice and do a double take but once you got over the sheer size of the school then you could appreciate the decorations or the extreme architecture. Paintings that were centuries old hung on the walls, tapestries making the place look elegant and gave the impression that professional adults went to school here when in all reality we were just a bunch of rowdy school children. Banners announcing new clubs and societies hung from the rafters and creative posters were to make it feel like home. The leadership society had out done themselves this year by trying to make the younger ones feel as if they weren't getting shipped off to a horrible private school while their parents went to Paris.
I made my way fully into the great hall and I sat down at my usual seat; fourth table at the end, closest to the massive oak doors leading in. There sat my three closest friends, Chris, Rylan, and Amy. "Hey guys, how are you today?" I asked in a proper tone which received the usual dry grunts of the three other members. Chris shrugged a little bit and picked at his food. Chris was, well the unsaid leader of us all, or we just looked up to him when matters got out of hand, we weren't sure yet. Chris was quite dorky and tended to be a bit oblivious to things that were happening school related or anything related really. But he was smart and tried not to brag about it much and he was flirtatious with almost every one but he was a good guy and tried to make everyone smile at least once.
Rylan was different; he smiled and looked up at me, hazel eyes piercing mine, I could tell he didn't get much sleep the night before because of the bags under his eyes. Rylan had a weird personality to say the least; he tended to be big headed, a little arrogant, he could be smart, maybe not book smart but hey. He was also funny like Chris and used it to his best ability, probably why they got on so well. Rylan flirted with everyone, even his best friends, and it always started with that damn smile. The smile that looked like it was bestowed on him from a god or something. Rylan's smile could make you melt at the slightest look, if you were having a bad day; all you had to do was go to him.
Now Amy, she had a mean streak to her. You did not want to be on her bad side but you would never guess when she jumps up to greet me with a hug and hands me her favorite book of the day. Amy was nosy and usually impossible to get along with but everyone loved her and to anyone's standards she was beautiful. Long hair trailing down her back and bright green eyes shone back at you when you looked at her, standing out against her dark Indian skin. She had a lean figure and cat-like grace, making your eyes latch onto her even if you didn't want them too.
