It was Saturday evening and I was getting ready for my date with Devan. I was wearing a one shoulder black mini maternity dress, black high heels and a black cardigan over my shoulders. Today I was six months pregnant. I was also wearing my princess-cut diamonds Tiffany’s necklace which I got for my sixteen’s birthday from my mother.
School was still awful! Angel didn’t learn anything from the party she went to last month. Angel and Ashley weren’t the only ones who bully me. It was about everyone at my high school. First it was the occasional notes on my locker and whispers behind my back, then came the insults and my friends just stopped talking to me altogether, a part from Alec of course-which was now the godfather of my twin’s girls.
I walked out of my room and made way down the stairs. When I got to the landing, Devan grabbed my hand. “You look beautiful.”
I felt my face going hot. “Where are we going?” I asked.
“Can’t tell you it’s a surprise,” He told me. We walked over to his car. He opened the door for me and I slipped in gracefully.
With that we drove off in silence.
“Close your eyes.” Devan told me while he parked the car. I did what he told me to do, and then I waited. I heard the click of a seat belt undone and a door opening and closing. A few minutes later my door opened and I felt a hand grab mine gently. We took a few steps forward. “You can open your eyes now, babe.” He told me softly.
As I opened my eyes slowly, I notice we were at the beach. In front of us was a picnic mat covered with red roses, candles and of course a picnic basket. I grasped by how stunning this was. This wasn’t like Devan at all! What gotten into him?
I turned around, facing Devan. “This is beautiful!”
He chuckled. “Not as beautiful as you are, right now.”
I smiled. “That may be true, but I’m wearing the wrong outfit. I’m at a gorgeous beach in a dress!”
“There’s nothing wrong with that.” I blushed as he kissed me passionately. Without breaking the kiss, he sat us both on the mat. I felt the babies started to kick. “I think they are hungry.”
“You need to eat.” He told me as he was unpacking the food in the picnic basket. “Sorry, but it’s only sandwich. I can’t cook good food.”
I let out a laugh. “No kidding about that.” Since we lived together, I was always the one cooking dinner. “I think it’s time for you to learn how to cook, before the twin comes.” He nodded his head in agreement.
After we ate our food and talked some about the babies, Devan looked right into my ocean blue eyes and got on one knee. He opened a small black box to reveal a platinum diamond ring. I grasped. “Ohmigosh!”
He took my hand and said, “Britany Redwood, I love you, and always will, I know we haven’t been with each other for long, would you do me the greatest honor of being my wife, we don’t have to married right away, we can wait until we’re both out of high school, but I just want you to promise me someday you will be mine, just mine and no one else’s.”
I was way too shocked and a small tear ran down my cheek. It was now or never. I nodded my head. “Yes! I would love to marry you Devan. I love you and our unborn children; I wouldn’t be anything without you in my life.” He took my hand as he put the engagement ring on my middle finger.
