At ten o'clock Sunday morning all that was heard was Breanna's shrill cry.
"Oh my God what the hell!"
The only other sound was loud laughter and footsteps hitting the floor as four mischievous teenagers ran and hid in Tyler's bedroom.
*Ten minutes earlier*
"Avery hurry up! She's going to get here any second!" Whispered Toby.
"I'm trying!" I harshly replied.
I struggled to screw on the shower head cap filled with kool aid powder. They had rigged a mechanism that would release the mix when we pressed a button. I heard approaching footsteps farther down the hall and nearly dropped it. I reached up a bit more from my position on the sink and was finally able to screw in the cap. I grabbed Tyler's shoulders and hopped down from the counter.
"I'm going to shower!" yelled Bree to no one in particular. Toby and Rose had dashed for it but Tyler stayed as I scrambled to wipe and clean the dropped powder. I heard her steps nearing the turn into the bathroom and as soon as I swept it into the trash Tyler grabbed my hand and dragged me out of there. We hid behind a corner and watched as she entered the bathroom with her towel. I snickered and covered my mouth with my other hand. We sat against the wall and waited until we heard the shower running. I forced my self to listen closely and I could make out the sound of the curtain drawing back, her feet hitting the water, and then I pressed the button. It would take a couple seconds. Zach walked by and looked at us peculiarly, for we were just in a bunch behind a corner. Then she screamed.
I fell back into Tyler's arms, laughing so hard I could barely breath. His hand was still clutched in mine and I didn't bother letting go. I heard his laugh in my ear and smiled even wider. I caught my breath and handed a confused Zach the remote. He took it and started down at it, still walking in the direction of the bathroom. I saw a furious Bree throw the door open and look around. My eyes widened and a sank down a bit. Tyler's arms were still around me and he lifted me as we dashed to his room. I couldn't stop laughing as I saw Breanna's blonde hair soaked with red. I heard her yelling at Zach and I heard his confused cries of protest and stifled laughs.
I was laughing so hard I could barely run up the stairs. We ended up nearly crawling into Tyler's newly furnished room and locking the door behind us. I finally let go of his hand, already missing the warmth, and throwing myself onto his large plush bean bag in the corner of the room. I caught him glance at me before he sat on the bed, still shaking a bit with laughter. Soon we all calmed ourselves down and tried to peek out of the room. I opened the door slowly, only allowing enough space for my eye the see through the crack.
Suddenly Breanna's furious face was in my vision. I screamed and fell backwards onto the floor. The other three scrambled out of her way and opened Tyler's balcony doors. As she stomped up to me I got up and tried to get to the door. Then Bree shoved last me, pushed everyone out onto the balcony and shut then locked the doors.
"You did this!" she yelled to me, pointing at her once blonde hair now dyed with a tint of red. It looked so bad on her I almost laughed. My eyes widened a fraction of an inch and I stepped back, my legs hitting Tyler's desk. She tried to shove me but I moved sideways and stepped out of her reach.
"This won't washout easily!" she still shouted, her anger showing no sign of retreat.
She whipped her leg out and hit my upper thigh. I staggered but stayed up, feeling a slight pang where she had hit me. She threw punches and jabs but I blocked them all, making her aggravated. Her hand went up and. I made the mistake of glancing to it when she kicked me square in the stomach. I felt a horrible pain flare through my midsection and chest. I hit the ground on my knees and doubled over, clutching my healing wound. A sense of fear went through me and I lifted my shirt up quickly.
