"Avery get up."
"Ave.."
"Don't make me throw you out of bed."
I was consciously awake. I was warm and snuggled in my covers though. I knew better than to think that was an empty threat. I learned from horrible experience. I shot my eyes open and pushed myself off the bed. I immediately felt cold and hurried to pull the covers up.
"We can stay here for a minute, but Lydia said after lunch she needed to explain something to us. I have a feeling its about what we overheard." he told me.
"I don't want to keep her waiting.." I said regretfully, but Tyler smiled and nodded helping me get up off the bed. I staggered a bit, my vision going black because I had gotten up too fast, and then his warm hand was on waist. I bit my lip and made my way to the door with him, hearing many other footsteps scattering the hall. We walked downstairs together, side by side, until we arrived at the kitchen where we parted into separate seats.
The tension is so uglily palpable that Avery tries not to laugh at Breanna's unhappy expression the entire time it takes them to eat. Bree hates the emotional energy of all things awkward. She lets the skin of her nose bunch in disgust and hikes her shoulders upwards as she sits through the silence.
Everyone's well aware that Lydia is irritated. She has this exuding kind of mood that kills the atmosphere of any room someone has the misfortune to share with her. The second she stands to clear her plate, everyone else follows for fear of making her wait, but also, to fill the room with noise instead of suffocating quiet.
The thing about her is that she's also quite magnetic. Her posture demands attention and authority, so no one hesitates to follow her to the back of the house and into her large office. It's one of the few that can seat all near 10 of them. As everyone took their seat Lydia walked over to a projector and turned it on, connecting it to her computer and opening a file. I watched as she fiddled with the hem of her skirt absentmindedly, waiting for the projection to appear on the empty wall in front of us. Avery smirks to herself as the image reminds her of bored teachers in high school, waiting to present something they don't really care about. Lydia always looks so uptight that living with her has been strange. She sees her in moments where she isn't frowning, and when her hair is a disheveled mess, and when training leaves her just as sweaty and out of breath as it does the rest of them, tomato red and vibrating with adrenaline.
Bright white light filled the room, sending shadows here and there, and a powerpoint was on the wall. The words 'Project 9' were in the middle in large, bold font. She tapped the spacebar and the next slide appeared, showing multiple pictures of a tall, bulky man, with black hair and sunglasses covering his face. In each picture he was either entering a building or exiting a vehicle, sometimes he was walking in a crowd. I glanced to my fellow mastermind Alex, who shrugged and shook his head, indiating he had no idea what was going on.
"This man is a threat to us. For the past three months he has been appearing in areas where you six were sighted last. He found a way to track you, and sent his men to destroy you the day you ran. I managed to disrupt his signal for a while, but it only helped us return here undetected. Now, do not underestimate him. He has agents everywhere, but in this house and in town, you are safe. We have alarms set up around the perimeter of this town to indicate whether anyone is entering or leaving. This man's sole purpose is to see you dead, so I needed to tell you about all of this." Lydia explained.
"From what we have gathered already he is currently resided in London. We have been watching him, but we have not received any threats regarding your lives since you arrived here. We havent been able to identify him, but we do know that he is not working alone. Someone is giving him orders, and we cannot track them. In a months time we will be arriving in London. We believe we have caught a transmission sent to Number 9 about meeting with his boss. We will be there to intercept him. Also, your parents will be assigned to this mission." she said.
