so, a few days ago, i was doing some piano practice on Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen when i kind of made a mental connection.
i was screwing around with the key of the main Hallelujah phrase. i started out in its original key of C. then i transposed it up to the key of D, when i noticed it sounded familiar.
after consulting my itunes library, i noticed that the fall out boy song Hum Hallelujah uses that key for the Hallelujah phrase during the bridge.
after listening to Hum Hallelujah all the way through, i paid extra attention to the line "hum hallelujah just off the key of reason" and thats when it clicked in my brain.
the key of C is known as the key of reason, and Hum Hallelujah is written in the key of D.
they literally hum hallelujah just off the key of reason
