Chapter 2: "Broken-hearted"

The funeral was over. Everyone left. There I stood in front of their graves. My eyes red and puffy from all the crying. I miss them so much. So so much...

I unlocked the door and stepped into the house. The house that once held so many happy memories. I walked towards my room, passing by the living room, remembering all the family game nights we had. I looked over to the dining table, remembering the delicious dinners my mom used to cook.

They're all gone. Nothing can make them come back. I walked into my room and laid on the bed. It felt like my heart was smashed into a million pieces. Suddenly, I remembered something that happened when I was 10 and my brother, Benjamin, was 15.

*flashback*

"You're loved Becca. Mom, Dad and I, we all love you and we're not going to stop loving you. We're not going anywhere okay? I promise," my brother said, smiling down to me.

I had fallen and bruised my ankle. I felt like no one cared but I knew I could always count on Ben.

*End of flashback*

He promised that he would never leave me but I guess promises were meant to be broken right? He left. Everyone I cared about left. I couldn't take it anymore. It hurt. Really bad. I looked around trying to find something to help. And there it was. The shining little devil; a blade. A blade that would help me forget all these unhappy memories that invaded my mind. I immediately grasped it, holding it tightly between my index finger and thumb. I held out my left wrist and no i didn't slash my wrist like any other person, instead, I 'drew' a broken heart. It stung but felt good. The blood came rushing out. The metallic smell filled my nose. It trickled down my hand and slowly dripped onto the floor. But, i could not feel the pain. All i could think about was how everyone left and how i escaped the tradegy with only a few injuries that would heal over time. I was the lucky one who survived. Yet, i didn't feel lucky. Not one bit.

As black dots started to dance around my vision, my uncle came in and when he saw all the blood and the blade, he put two and two together and I knew then and there that my whole life was going to change...

Jefferson Rehab Centre. That's where I am now. A dull, boring and lifeless place. Only Serena and Amber, my roommates, make it a little bit better. So now I'm walking to the counselling room to meet Dr Gilbert, my counsellor.

I reached and knocked on the wooden door. I could hear muffled voiced but still could make out what they were saying. Now I'm not eavesdropping here.

"Well once again welcome to Jefferson and I'll see you tomorrow." Dr Gilbert said to someone while opening the door.

Little did i know that this 'someone' would change everything...
