Chapter 5: "Shit. Just shit. "

Shit. Yes, shit. That was the first thing that came to my mind when Tyler Moore decided to finish up our project this Saturday which is tomorrow. Out of all days, this Saturday. We were almost done with our multimedia art work for our art project. It was just this really long canvas and we were painting a forest. So I painted the inner side of the canvas while Tyler painted the outer part. Well, that's not really the main point right now. The thing is about this weekends. It's MY SEVENTEENTH BIRTHDAY. That's not all. You see, something;something tragic, i would say, happened on that very day.

Remember how i said that i hated my birthday with every single fibre in my body? Well, i still do hate it. Every year on my birthday, my hatred for it increased. Every year on that very day, i would be reminded of the fact that i was alone. Everyone left. And i stayed behind to suffer in this cruel world while everyone i cared about left.

" But...i'm erm...not free this Saturday. I'm going to visit my Uncle. " I tell Tyler, trying my best to lie my way through.

Raising his eyebrow questioningly he asks, "Did you even get permission to do that? "

I nodded my head in response to his question, hoping with all my heart that he wouldn't see through my lie.

Thankfully, Tyler shurgged and said, " Okay. We can always do it next week. See ya. "

As soon as Tyler was out of sight, i let out a breath of relief that i had been holding in.

*Saturday AKA my birthday*

On Saturday, i woke up earlier than usual, at about 6am and got ready for the day ahead. The day in which i would remember all those memories. Those happy memories that could only stay as memories and not be real. Well, not anymore.

Just as i was about to leave, my roomates, Serena and Amber, woke up and wished my good luck. They were the only one that knew about the tradegy that happened exactly seven years ago. They knew not to say "happy birthday" to me. And for that, I was thankful because it wasn't something happy for me. Most of the memories of my family and the accident would always come back and somehow, they were much clearer on my birthday.

Cracking a small smile at them, i dragged my feet towards the school gates an hopped into my Uncle's car which was already waiting there. Nodding a hello to my Uncle, we drove off in complete silence. My day had barely started and i felt so drained. It felt like all my energy had been sapped out of me. I was dreading this day so much and i just wanted to go back to my dorm and fall back asleep. Soon, my eyes drooped close and i fell into dreamland where the memories became real. But that comfort only lasted for awhile before i realised that they were just dreams.

"Hey, Becca. Wake up. We're at the flower store. Go on and pick the flowers. Come on. " my Uncle nudged me gently, trying to wake me from my deep slumber.
