I had arrived.
I remember this building very clearly, I’ve been here plenty of times. I was in the middle of Apgujeong-dong, staring up at the famous SM Entertainment building. It was just as intimidating as it was the first few times I’ve been here.
I scowled as I thought back of how the managers had treated me once I told them I was here for the trainee program. Not only had they turned a blind eye towards me, they told the security guards to kick me out of the building completely.
Maybe I shouldn’t do this. If I’ve been kicked out for forty times, I’m just going to be kicked out and let down again.
Just as I was about to turn around and leave, something caught my eye. It was a pamphlet that was stuck to the entrance.
Ever dreamed of being famous? A star? Now’s a chance to be known. Auditions are now opened for the one and only EXO. You’re only going to regret it if you don’t do it.
They were right; I was only going to regret it.
Who cares if I’ve been kicked out of the building for forty times? How much of a difference could forty one times make? I wasn’t going to let fear get the best of me.
And getting rid of all the negative thoughts, I pushed the door and walked in the building, trying to look completely calm.
I noticed that the building was quite packed, as most of the seats in the waiting area were filled up.
I approached the reception, as the lady working there looked up at me. She took a double-take of me then gave me an icy smile before she asked, “How may I help you?”
“Where would I be able to find the audition area for EXO?”
She raises an eyebrow, “It’s near the practise rooms. There will be directions when you get there.”
I smiled, “Thank you so much.”
She gives me one last judgemental look before she shakes her head and continues with what she was doing.
Why was everyone acting so fishy today?
I began walking to the practise rooms, as my heart began racing faster and faster. I noticed that people were also walking alongside me, with similar expressions. They were all wishing for what I was wishing for.
There was one thing I noticed though...
Why were they all... males?!
I immediately stopped walking.
I gasped as I realized what an idiot I’ve just been. How had I not realized it?! Obviously, I would have to be a male to join a boy band. How could I have been so caught up with just the fact that there was an audition, I didn’t even take the time to think about the fact that it was a goddamn audition for a freaking boy band.
No wonder Candice acted so kind.
Don’t make too much of a fool of yourself.
Fool of yourself.
Fool.
She was right, I’m a fool. I’m a fool of dreaming of something that was way out of my limit. I’m a fool for wanting to become a world-wide sensation. But this fool wasn’t going to give up right here.
I straightened up and continued heading the direction everyone was walking.
I noticed the line to enter the room, and just as I was about to join it, a hand grabbed my arm and twirled me around. “What do you think you’re doing?” A man in shades questions me.
“Going for the audition?”
He laughs, “Nice try, kid. There’s too many of you teenage girls trying to sneak in. EXO isn’t here today. There’s no point trying to sneak into the auditions.”
“No, sir, I’m genuinely here for the auditions.”
“That’s cute, kid.” He rolls his eyes, “Now get lost.”
I stood there stubbornly, I wasn’t leaving so easily. “Give me a chance.”
“I’d love to,” he scoffed, “But have you seen any co-ed groups in Korea? No. There’s no chance that they’d even consider you, kid. Just save yourself some trouble.”
“I’m not leaving.”
He scowls, “Then I’ll make you leave.”
He reaches for my arm but I quickly bend out of his reach. Oh nuh-uh. I watch as his eyes get bigger and angrier, as he reaches for it again, but I begin to head towards the line, as he runs after me.
“Hey!” he yells after me, but I continue running.
I laugh to myself. Slow-poke. Sure, he was strong, but he didn’t exactly look like he’d be the type to run fast.
Just before I could get ahead of myself though, I bumped into a strong figure in front of me and fell to the floor.
“Ouch,” I whimpered, as I looked up to see who I had bumped into.
It was a male figure, in a black suit. He reaches a hand out which I accept. “I’m sorry, but you should watch where you were going.” He smiles politely. “You didn’t get hurt anywhere right?”
“No, I’m fine. And I’m sorry,” I bow in shame.
“That’s good.”
The security guard managed to catch up now, still shouting his loud ‘heys’. I cursed beneath my breath. I was so close.
The security guard immediately bowed once he saw the man, which the man returned with a slight head nod. The security guard then grabs me by my collar, as I choke slightly. The man in black looks at us curiously.
“What’s happening here?”
“Ah, sir,” the security guard replies, “I’m so sorry for the inconvenience but this young lady was heading to the line for the auditions and demanded that she was here for auditioning. I stopped her before she caused too much of a scene.”
Too late, I thought, as I noticed all the eyes that were looking in our direction. He was the one drawing all the attention, to be honest.
The man in black chuckles, as he turns to look at me, “Audition?”
“Yes, sir,” I bite my lips.
“You do know that EXO is a boy band right?”
“Of course, sir. But the pamphlet and website didn’t say we had to be male in order to audition.”
“Hmm...” he scratches his chin, as if he was deep in thought, “That is true.”
The security guard blurts out, “Manager Im, are you actually listening to this little girl? It’s ridiculous! She’s obviously sneaking in to meet EXO.”
“Is that true?” the man asks, although it seemed that this was all amusing to him.
“No, sir, I am genuinely here for the audition.”
He laughs, “Well we’ve never had this situation like this before. I wonder why no females have ever shown up for these auditions. You’re an interesting one.”
“Does that mean I can get in line?” I ask brightly.
He laughs again, “Sure. But I’m not guaranteeing you anything for the auditions.”
“Thank you, sir!” I bow in respect.
"It's okay. I'll see you very, very soon." He says, before he waves the both of us off and walks away.
The security guard was looking at both of us in completely horror, and just before I headed to where the line was, I shot him one last cocky look.
Take that, you retarded security guard!
