Description:

This is based on a prompt my cousin made for me, my brother and our other cousins to get inspiration from. She asked us to take the prompt and build from it to create a short story. Here is my take on the prompt. If anyone in the club happens to read this, and wants to use the prompt, then go right ahead! Let me know if you use it.

Prompt (written by my cousin, Olivia):

"On a dim evening, as you are about to go to bed, there is a knock at the door. You (or the character) answers with some trepidation. A mysterious figure appears at the door with a secret...and a box. Inside the box is an item (a letter, a picture, a key or any other small object) that will reveal information of the past (any past, historically, familial, etc.) The mysterious figure drops their hood, gives you the box and tells you to open it. Doing so, you discover the secret contained within the box. You are confused, so the person (or alien, or something, whatever you're using) explains the significance of the item."

The story (written by me):

Will Howlter walked the halls of his high school, depositing his backpack in his locker, and making his way towards his first period class. He had a little time until the bell rang, so he approached the locker of his best friend, Mary, who was chatting with her brother's girlfriend, a senior named Lexi.

"Alright, well, Dan and I are going out for dinner after the match, so we won't be able to drive you home tonight. Is that alright?"

"Yeah, that's fine. I'll get my dad to pick me up." Mary said.

Lexi left, and Mary turned to Will.

"Hey, Will." She said. "Ready for Chem?"

"Yep." He said, as they walked side by side the rest of the way to the classroom.

Will wasn't entirely sure how he managed to become best friends with a girl like Mary. All of his other friends were nerdy and dorky like him, spending most of their time in one of their basements playing Dungeons and Dragons. But Mary was cool, and smart, and pretty. Honestly, best friends was kind of a one sided term, given the fact that only she saw them that way. He, on the other hand, had a very awkward crush on her. Not that he would ever tell her. If she didn't feel the same way, then an awkward freshman against her two overprotective older brothers was probably not a good situation to be in.

He made it through the long day of school, and was more than ready to go home and relax by the end of it. He waited by Mary's locker while she got her sports bag and tennis racket. They were about to leave when they noticed something odd. Dan and Lexi walked by, hand in hand, but they were followed by a group of goons and their bitchy girlfriends.

It was clear by their malicious giggling and muttering that Dan and Lexi were their next victims.

One of the girls whistled and called out, "Whoo, girl, you're lucky. If I had that piece of ass I wouldn't just be holding his hand."

Lexi spun around abruptly, daggers in her eyes.

"Excuse me, would you like to repeat that?" Lexi asked through clenched teeth.

At this point, every student in the vicinity had silenced, watching with anticipation. In a hallway where you could sometimes barely hear the person next to you, you could have heard a pin drop in that moment.

"She was just complimenting you by saying your guy is sexy as hell." Said another one of the girls.

Dan looked extremely uncomfortable, but Lexi just looked livid.

"What, so just because your asshole boyfriends catcall you, it's okay to objectify other guys? Is that how you think? Because you're a dumbass if you think you can get away with that." Lexi exclaimed.
