Description: Written for Lit Club from a prompt "Rain and Chaos".
Her boots hit the wet cement with a scraping thud. Bolting across the alley, she swept a loose strand of blonde hair behind her ear, sending little droplets of shimmering water flying off the ends. She looked quickly over her shoulder, counting that there were three figures pursuing her. All three were large, burly and, let's face it, probably pretty dumb.
She turned her focus on what was ahead of her. Two roads, one left and one right, and a tall, two story building. Turning down one of the roads and trying to shake the men off was probably the logical answer, but based on the speed at which they were gaining on her, she presumed she would last ten minutes before the daggers they were throwing finally hit their mark.
She didn't slow as she raced towards the building ahead, springing upwards at the last minute. Her hands caught the gutter, causing it to gush with all the rainwater it had been building up, drenching her with a freezing surge of water. She pulled herself up to a ledge, and took a glance below at the confused goons. She gave them 3.5 seconds before they realized they could try climbing after her. Her fingers felt numb as they clenched around the edge of the roof. She swiftly lifted herself onto it, rolling over the top to avoid a flying dagger one of the men tried to throw.
Peeking over the edge, she learned that two of the men were attempting to climb up the brick wall. One had made it to the gutter, but the other kept skidding down with the loss of traction because of the pouring rain. The third man held an array of daggers, just waiting for her to expose herself.
She never would.
Lifting the hood of her cloak to conceal her features, she strode across the rooftop. She leapt across a few roofs, just to ensure the men wouldn't find her, and then lowered herself back onto a back alley road. She lifted a manhole cover, and dropped into a sewer, causing a great splash with her landing.
Striding off under the cover of darkness and rain, the silent assassin escaped after another successful slaughter.
