Chogi (초기): Gubgi (굽기) Village

Eight Thousand Years Ago

Outskirts of Arvania

Phoenix Jeondang

Fire.

It was all he could see from all sides of him. The orange flames burned brightly engulfing his whole life right in front of him.

The Jeondang.

The village.

His family.

The boy couldn’t stop himself from crying. It was, after all, his fault. The reason why his father wasn’t next to him. The reason why his mother wasn’t comforting him.

The reason why his little brother was in the collapsing house.

Dead.

He wasn’t strong enough to save them. Drying his tears, the boy got up and ran. He ran for his own life past the shops of which his everyday life encountered, all the way to the temple of the Phoenix.

The Phoenix Jeondang.

Standing out of breath, he looked up and saw the towering statue of the goddess in both her human and animal form. The smoke was too much and the boy began coughing. His cloak soon caught the flames of which murdered his loved ones.

“I hate you.” He whispered. “I hate you so much. WHY AREN’T YOU SAVING US?!”

The indifferent statues stayed still the whole time as the boy’s body fell into the ashes.

They didn’t deserve to die. None of them did.

So why did they?
