Creeping along the alleyway cautiously, I kept myself alert. The whirling accompanied by the cars racing down the streets became background noise as I entered the small section of the busy city. I had to walk to the other outskirts and cutting through was the easier option.
Voices grabbed by attention as I rounded the corner, stuck with two options on where to go. From my right side, voices bounced off the alley passage. I bit my lip, my glance darting into the unknowing darkness. I could have turned left, easily going home, avoiding the voices.
It seemed like today was just not sensible. "Why the hell not," I muttered, ducking into the right alleyway. Slowly, I edged along wall, peering to see anything. As I neared the end, I could see that it opened up into a square section formed by walls of various buildings. A groan emerged from the dimly lit scene.
I stayed behind the cover of the wall, peaking out to see. A built man had his huge arms wrapped around a petite figure, kissing him on the neck. Disgust rolled in me. Another type of Rogues.
It wasn't till the man let out another groat that I saw his collar, white and pressed. His attire revealed something shocking. On his chest, gleamed the silver symbol of a beta, people who helped carry out the Alpha orders. I gaped in astonishment. This didn't make sense. Betas definitely did not do this. The girl backed up, her face still covered by the shadows. I could tell she was a blonde, from the way the moonlight shone on her golden hair. Kissing him again, the girl whispered something in the man's ear.
The man's smile dropped, fear crawling into his eyes. He backed away, only to let out a muffled scream. From behind, there was a hooded figure, capturing the man's cry with his gloved hand. A sickening sound reached my ears as I saw a crimson stain glowing on the government official's clothes.
My head seemed to spin as I gaped aghast. Immediately, I started to shuffle back, seeing my vision tunnel to a small focus point. The sight of blood never sickened me before and I knew it had to be some other source.
A drug.
I did not have time to recall how it could have been inserted as a pair of green eyes flashed up at me, anger stirring. I was not sure if he was staring at me or the space, but I wasn't going to risk it. Following my instinct, I started to flee, turning back as I hit into a dead run. At first, I started to smack into the walls of the alley, seeming to bounce between the two till I could pull myself straight ahead. The girl shouted behind me and it had been a minute before I could hear them shuffling through the alley as well.
I had the advantage of knowing other ways to get back home and fast. I ran straight ahead, trying to estimate where they were behind me. I saw an opportunity as a storage door was slightly open. Suspicious yes, but I rather risk it. Slipping inside, I rolled behind two tall drums, filled with something liquid for they squished inside as I bumped into them. I held my breath, holding my head in my hands as I closed my eyes, trying to regain focus.
The footsteps passed without hesitation. They were gone, whoever they were. Assassins. I'm betting they were assassins, from who they murdered.
I never liked the assassin covens. It was one thing to steal and have to fight in self defense but to gain by murdering... It was not in my nature. My thoughts felt muddled as I tried to sort out the scene that was just revealed to me. Betas were supposedly an example for the Mindless, not disgusting bastards.
Although I bet they bloody are!
While I tried to make sense, in the end, darkness captured it's victim.
