Chapter 3

The gravel crackled under the bridgestones, and the engine hummed until it drowned out- only the stiring of the grass and rustling of the trees were perceived.

A deep, cupped clap sounded as he shut the door and scanned the road side in search of...a once life.

It was gone.

He hoped his thoughts would dim and disappear if he came back.  A mould carved in the mud outlined the unknown and unseen creature.

Its legs, seemed as if it were running, still running from his car. The head, the head was tilted down, ashamed yet still fierce. The tail, long and furry, the mud preserved the figure beautifully, and a few stray black hairs floated on top of the merky water accumulated in the midst.

Again he scanned the dirt and road. Two black lines scared the road from applying his breaks only hours before, and to his surprise not a drop of blood stained the tar, perhaps the rain washed it away.
