Newt looked around, slightly lost but amazed at the same time. He had heard his parents talking about Hogwarts ever since he remembered. The happy memories shared by them had always made Newt want to go to that school and create his own stories: to be selected to one of the four houses; make friends; play quidditch; learn how to be a great wizard; learn more about the creatures that amazed him the most.
"It's time!" he thought, taking a deep breath, staring at the wall that would get him to platform 9 3/4. Closing his eyes, he ran.
"Wow!" the little boy exclaimed, opening his eyes. In front of him was the Hogwarts' Express and around, hundreds of witches and wizards, some adults, others children, all sharing the same excitment and passion: adults remembering their happy times as students in Hogwarts; children imagining all the experiences they'd live while studying there.
"Excuse me!" the little boy exclaimed, trying to be noticed by a tall figure who was giving directions to several other students "I'm Newt Scamander. This is my first year in Hogwarts. Where should I go?".
"First of all, welcome Newt! I'm Albus Dumbledore and I'm the Transfiguration teacher. First years are on that carriage. Climb up and enjoy your ride to Hogwarts!"
Newt nodded. For some reason, that teacher impressed him. The way he spoke and act, so calm but so confident, it was admirable! Climbing up, the boy looked around. There was a hallway with several doors on both sides, all doors lead to small cabins. Children around his age were filling the hallway, talking loud and laughing.
"Excuse me-" Newt kept saying, trying to pass by them and find an empty cabin. As soon as he did, he closed its door. Despite being excited, he was also tired. Grabbing the Daily Prophet, Newt sat down and started reading it. He could hear the train's engine running. He looked outside the window. So many people waving goodbye to the children inside, but none of them was waving to Newt. Ever since he had that big fight with his parents, their relation changed. They hadn't even brought him to the station.
The train started moving. With a sigh, Newt kept looking outside the window. They had already left the station. He could barely see the buildings of his town, getting now lost in the distance. The train was traveling fast and he could already see green plains ahead. Laying down, he placed his bag under his head and closed his eyes.
"I'm sorry dear, did I woke you up?" a chubby smiling lady asked when accidently bumping with her trolley on Newt's cabin door, making the boy open his eyes "Anything from the trolley?"
Newt got up and walked towards the lady, taking a few coins off his pocket "A chocolate frog please!" he asked.
"One for me as well!" he heard, not far from him. Curious, he turned around to see where that melodious voice had come from. Not far from him was standing the most beautiful girl he had ever set his eyes on. He couldn't stop looking at her angelical presence, from bottom to top.
"Move darling! I don't have all day!" Newt heard the lady, waking up from his daydream. Realizing he was blocking the trolley, he took a step back entering his cabin once more. As soon as the trolley passed by, Newt sticked his head out, in hope to see the girl again. But unfortunately, he didn't have that luck.
"Five minutes until we get to Hogwarts!" he heard someone shouting from the cabin next to his. Newt smiled. It still felt unbelievable to him. One of his dreams was about to come true and he wasn't sure if he was ready for it. He didn't have much experience has a wizard but he was an intelligent boy. He had a vast knowledge in fields such as potions, magical creatures and wizarding history.
The train stopped. "First years, you may leave the train! Come out, come on!" Newt heard. Grabbing everything he had taken with him, he left the train. Looking around, Newt identified a big man in front of him. "That must be Mort!" he thought. Newt knew him from his parent's stories. Mort was the keeper of Hogwarts for over fifty years, he was also the reason of some of his parent's funniest school stories. Mort was the keeper of the keys and grounds at Hogwarts, and the person in charge of the school's most dangerous and majestic creatures. He was known for his grumpy and rude attitude, and for his despise towards the creatures he had to take care of.
"This is, magnificent!" Newt thought when entering for the first time in Hogwarts. Every corner, every painting, everything was mind-blowing for the little boy. Following the other first year students, Newt entered the Great Hall. The Great Hall was the main gathering area in the school located off the Entrance Hall. Students ate their meals, received daily owl post and had certain special events there. And one of those events was about to happen: the Sorting Ceremony! Newt couldn't wait to find out what his future house would be, but first, a speech from the headmaster.
He drank every word pronounced by the headmaster. When the speech ended, Newt looked up, observing every single bit of the Great Hall, especially the candles floating in the ceiling, enchanted to look like the sky above. All four students tables were filled and each House was impatiently waiting to find out their new members. The staff table at the front was filled as well and the teachers were carefully examining the new faces.
"Newt Scamander!". Hearing his name echoing through the Great Hall slightly scared him. He was curious but also nervous to find out his house. Getting up, he walked towards the chair next to the Sorting Hat.
"This is a curious one!" the Sorting Hat chuckled when placed on top of Newt's head "I see you're brave and also kind. You enjoy learning new things, especially if they're related to... magical creatures! Yes! Although you'd be a good acquisition for Gryffindor... HUFFLEPUFF!"
Newt looked around. There were a lot of cheerings and applauses coming from the Hufflepuff table. He smiled. "I'm home!" he thought, rushing to join his new mates.
So, second chapter is here! Hope you guys are enjoying this so far! As you can see, Mort is basically an old and rude version of Hagrid that had his job during the time Newt Scamander went to Hogwart - little note, Mort is actually an important character for this story!
Again, I strongly hope you're enjoying how this is going! Can't wait to show you what I have in storage!Question: Have you taken the sorting test? If so, what's your house in Hogwarts? Mine is Hufflepuff!
