Ew, is that kale
I rather eat a hamburger
Why did you order a salad
Are you trying to lose weight
I hate running
Lets watch T.V. instead
You look fine
Why are you crying?
Are you sure you want to wear that
Look at how much your sweating
How many of those have you eaten
You're making me feel bad about myself
God, I've gotten so fat
Looks at me quickly to see my reaction.
It's fine If you don't want to run
No, I am not ashamed to wear that
Yes I've had two and I would love a third
If you don't like it
Don't do it
If you don't like me
Then turn your head
No, I'm not doing this for you
All of this is for me.
Yes, I am fat but
I am not ashamed of my body
Or who I am
Instead of worrying about me
Maybe look at yourself instead.
This poem was inspired by Kelli Jean Drinkwater who spoke at Ted earlier this year about her life as a bigger woman and the hate that she had faced because of it and the love she had found for herself and her body. If you have ten minutes I highly encourage you to watch it. It's called the Enough with the Fear of Fat.
