Alex didn't know or understood why she had been given ten days of grace by Gipsy before their agreement came to effect, but it irritated her. She had all that determination burning inside her, all that curiosity to find out what no one else outside the walls of The Company or The Academy knew. She had the once-in-a-lifetime chance to learn the dark world that was veiled to her and all everyone else in the world... and what stood in between that curiosity and the possibility of satisfying it? Her pet's whim.
Alex could have found a way to force her to start immediately, if she were a normal owner or started acting like one all of a sudden, but what was the point of all that if she was going to be like all the other jerks out there? A part of her knew that it was precisely because she wasn't like every other owner that someone like Gipsy was kindly allowing her to get to know more about her and the world she came from... or so thought young, innocent Alex.
That night, both girls went to bed together, sharing Alex's queen sized bed "like good sisters" as Mrs.Vance had said. The woman had promised to get Gipsy her very own bed as soon as possible under the excuse that she was redecorating one of the guest rooms, but, in the meanwhile, they'd have to share.
Alex didn't mind sharing. If she had had friends, they would have probably stayed the night from time to time and would have to sleep there as well. It was all perfectly safe and innocent in a world that didn't see experimenting with your own sex as a social threat but rather a natural thing, even after you got deep into the forties. It was, like the Romans had said, the purest kind of love and it wasn't considered a betrayal if a married person kept a same sex lover or used a pet as such. On the other hand, it was strange when it didn't happen.
In any case, both girls went to bed wearing a pair of Alex's pajamas, as Mrs.Vence still hadn't have any time to get her "new daughter" a wardrobe of her own, again, under the excuse of renewing her own kid's.
In the dark, Alex tossed and turned, too nervous, overtaken with curiosity and impatient to sleep. Gipsy, however, was tense and still as a statue, curled over herself with her back to the other girl, as if she were trying to lock the rest of the universe away from her own little world. She was so still, Alex thought her asleep, while she was actually lost in deep thought, plotting, thinking and calculating, making plans for the next three months.
"I'm gonna need some things if you really are insane enough to still want to go through with what we talked about this afternoon," the blond said all of a sudden, in the pitch black darkness of the night. Alex startled. "Things? What kind of things?" She asked suddenly scared that getting those things would alert her mother and get her in trouble.
"Well... I can't tell you, or it would ruin the surprise... and there's no way you could get your hands on that kind of stuff anyway."The girl said with obvious pride. "But I think I could make most of what I'll need if you get me the mats," she informed confident, with a tone that sounded like that of a business woman, too sure of herself and confident on her abilities to the point where there she didn't know what modesty was anymore.
"I'll do my best, but... can't you make me a list? I have terrible memory." The brunette admitted, a bit ashamed. "Sure. Whatever." Was her pet's reply. "Oh, and, your mom wants to get rid of the cage. That's your warranty in case you want to return me and I'm gonna need it for you, so it has to stay." "I understand, but how am I supposed to convince my mom to keep it? You don't know how she gets when..." "That's your job, not my problem, Miss I-want-a-taste-of-the-Pet-Academy. You keep the cage and get me the mats; I train you like a pet. That was the agreement and I intend to deliver, so you better get to work tomorrow." "Eh... sure," Alex said nervously, intimidated by the way her supposedly tamed pet was talking down to her.
