I was blindsided. Fountain was a person!
She grinned ear to ear, showing off her pearly white teeth. Besides smelling like freshly baked pastries, she was gorgeous. Fountain could be a model. She was tan and had golden curly locks of hair falling down to her waist. She had bright blue eyes that sparkled. She was just the right size and height. I bet she didn't even realize how pretty she was.
She shook my hand gracefully. I was completely paralyzed, but I managed to introduce myself. "I'm May."
"What a lovely name!" Fountain began jumping up and down, squeezing my hand. She smiled at me again, and I returned the gesture.
She giggled and said, "This is Eve!"
I felt bad that I hadn't noticed the thin girl behind the perky and bubbly Fountain. This girl was so thin I thought the wind would blow her away. Eve could actually be the opposite of Fountain. She was a shrimp! She had short dark brown hair and deep brown eyes that it seemed you could fall into. Although her eyes looked pained, like she had seen and knew to much. I wanted to run over and hug her. The only similarity we all had was that we looked to be about the same age.
I gathered my thoughts before I spoke and began, "So what are we doing here?"
Eve whispered, "Did you guys get notes?"
We both nodded in unison.
Fountain exclaimed, "Mine said to sit at this bench."
I responded, "Mine said to look for you."
Eve mumbled, "Mine said to look under this bench."
We all looked at each other and dropped to the floor. I saw the note first, but Fountain snatched it away too fast for me to even get close to it.
Fountain began singing as she unfolded the piece of paper, "Dear Eve, Fountain, and May." She laughed and continued, "You three have been recognized for your artwork and have the opportunity to compete..."
"Compete for what?" I interrupted anxiously.
"The Montgomery Art School!" Fountain squealed. "We get to compete for a scholarship!"
We all started jumping up and down at the news. The Montgomery Art School is a huge deal. I couldn't believe that they had found me.
Fountain began chirping again, "Well if we want to compete we have to come to back tomorrow, at this spot!"
Suddenly, Eve began running, holding her long skirt in both hands. I blinked several times watching her.
I eventually cried, "Eve!"
She didn't even look back, she just bolted ten times faster.
