Stretching her arms, Maya woke up feeling only somewhat refreshed. She was rattled by the conversations with the Lim matriarch and patriarch and their sudden appearance.
Kaya mo yan Maya. Kung kinaya mo sina Ms Belmonte, kaya mo rin sila. Mabubuting tao sila kasi nga, magulang sila ni Richard diba? Tama. Tama. Whew.
Checking the clock, she finds out that she has enough time for a shower.
Wearing only a towel, she reaches into her cabinet only to find out that she did not have suitable clothes to wear.
She recalled that she had hurriedly left the newly ironed clothes in the living room as she was running late for her flight the last time she was home and in her tiredness the night before, she left her bag in the living room as well.
“Ay kabayo!” She managed to shout as a man in her living room moved when she turned on her light.
“Maya! It’s just me.” The man stood up, adjusting his glasses and pocketing his phone.
“Richard naman eh! Bakit di ka man lang nagbukas ng ilaw?” Maya clutched at her chest and stomped over to slap the man’s arm. “At paano ka nakapasok?” Her chest was heaving and her heart was pounding from the shock.
“Thought I’d fetch you,” Richard replied without moving from his previous position. “Anton lent me his keys and I brought coffee.” He paused. “Rather, hot water and coffee ingredients. Naisip ko na ikaw na lang magtimpla, wala kasi talagang nakakakuha ng timpla mo ng kape.” He gave her a lopsided smile.
“Ah sige, nasan na yung kape?” Maya peered at the things that Richard brought with him.
“Um Maya…” Richard shifted awkwardly.
“Hmm?”
Richard gestured to her attire (or lack of it).
Color rose to Maya’s face; she had forgotten that she was only in her towel. “Ay, sorry! Sandali lang ha.” She quickly got her basket of clothes and locked herself in her bedroom.
Richard grinned to himself. Maya could be naive at times. He likes that.

Taking advantage of the absence of Maya and Richard, Luke gathered the household (sans a sleeping Anton) in the living room that morning in order to reiterate their roles for that day and the next. Richard had told him the night before of how the plans will be with their grandparents and Maya thrown into the mix.
“That’s nice,” Esmeralda remarked. “I look forward to spending the day with Maya and Anton to make sure that Maya will be unaware of the preparations.”
Roberto added, “Don’t worry about me – I’ll just keep out of the way today. I’ll be meeting with industry people today but I’ll be there tomorrow.”
“Oh-my-gee, I’m so excited for Dad’s proposal!” Nikki squealed with glee and matching hand movements.
“Nikki, ilang beses ko ba sasabihin sa iyo na hindi ito proposal.” Luke said exasperatedly.
“What? How can it not be a proposal?” Nikki scrunched her face in thought. “Di ba Dad’s going all out to tell Tita Maya and show her how much he loves her and how important she is to him?”
“Exactly.” Luke said. “It’s not like he’s going to ask her ‘will you marry me’ in front of everyone. You know Dad, he likes it private and discreet.”
“Also,” Roberto added his two cents. “Your father would not like to put Maya on the spot by asking her in front of a lot of people. From what I gather about Maya, I don’t think she’ll be that heartless to reject your father in a way na mapapahiya si Ricky.”
