"Well, we better find out why then." She crossed her arms and gave The Doctor a half smile.
An adventurous spark in her eyes.
Just for a moment she could sense the Doctors unease but it didn't scare her, it almost encouraged her.
Turning heel on the crunchy snow underfoot she marched towards the row of shops that looked as if someone had taken them from one of those moving christmas ornaments, blown them up to livable size and plonked them there. Twinkling fairy lights lit up their frosty windows and framed thier doorways. She had to admit they were charming little buildings. Made out of thick logs, carved with beautiful ornate patterns and painted festive colours. All of them sat underneath one long sloping roof, plain wooden decking like one stretched porch sheltered would be shoppers to peer in the windows.
Kitty admired the cheery window display of the first shop. It really was like an Elf toy shop. Nutcracker soldiers made out of wood and brightly painted stood to attention or sat on rocking horses in amongst small glittery wooden trees. All very traditional. Her eyes moved from the display to peer into the shop itself. She could make out rows of cuddly santas, snowmen and elves. Prancing reindeer silhouettes in various colours hung from the low beamed ceiling. It was decorations and toys galore inside. Train sets, huge vintage looking cars, rocking horses...she spotted what must have been the shops counter and the open workshop behind it but all was still and empty.
"Hmm." She voiced as she moved onto the next window.
The Doctor suddenly appeared by her side. His mouth happily chewing on something.
"What are you eating?" she asked nonchalantly.
"Mince pie." he replied thickly wiping his hands.
She turned to him, the familiarity of this scene- an empty village the Doctor eating some random food...and she gave an audible sigh. "Do you always have to find something to eat in these situations?"
"What?" His big brown eyes looked at her innocently.
"at least it wasn't rotten this time." she mumbled.
"So...are you going to admire all the windows or....?"
"I'm not admiring-I'm investigating."
"Right....right.." The Doctor nodded, clearing his throat and shoving his hands in his brown pinstripe trouser pockets.
"Unless....you've found anything already that explains what could be happening here?" She turned to him eyebrows raised under her large furry hood.
"No...no...you...carry on." He grinned. He was enjoying watching her...caught between the childish awe of the window displays and the seriousness of her little investigation. The incessant christmas songs played on somehow making the emptiness of the village more apparent.
His own mind whirred, trying to pin point anything, any tiny sign of trouble....any tiny hint....
His large brown eyes drifted downwards to the shop window he stood at. His eyes settled on a little figurine among the many displayed. His brow knitted. It was a simply carved figure of a little man. He wore a cowboy hat and curiously, a pink lie- a hawaiian flower garland- hung around it's neck. The little figure stood one arm raised almost in a silent salute, a large red bus behind him.
Why is that so familiar?
His Brain searched for something it could not find, causing a wave of dizziness and he winced as a slight pain ran through his very core. A flash of bright golden light filled his vision behind his closed eyes.
