When I first arrived in school I received five compliments from my friends, met eight new people by the names of: Kelly, Chris, Cassy, Daina, Daniel, Brooke, Mathew and Spencer.

My introduction to all my classes didn't suck so that went great; only because a certain mean girl wasn't in school. Her name is Mandy Klerk, and she is my worst enemy, she's the reason why some of my school mates call me cavy, in other words cave men.

She placed peanuts into my slush on slushy day when I was in the 7th grade. Unfortunately for me I was allergic to peanuts. I immediately went ballistic. I was grunting and coughing and my face swelled up like a balloon. I barely remember half of what happened but ever since that day, they've been calling me caveman, or cavy for short. Well that's all about to change.

But back to what's more important. I also had a blast at lunch and recess with the gang. Well mainly me and Seth sat at one side of the table and played with our food and made funny comments at each other's food man, then went to teasing my cousin Jacob about little miss Bella Swan, which earned a glare from him.

After I got dropped off by Jacob, I went home and slept on my bed with a big smile plastered on my face. At least the day went well. At this pace I can become school captain by 11th grade and I'm also thinking of joining the student council and the study club, the chess club and the music group club, and also other school clubs that will be fun, hopefully.

I hear a faint audible knock on my door, it was sharp but slightly loud. Melissa.

I tilt my head to the corner and see Melissa standing with a brown fluffy fox cradled in her arms, her doe eye's were twinkling and her dimpled chin was slightly tilted in with an adorable pout.

I immediately sit up and lean on the head of my bed. "Lisa?"

She slowly walks towards my bed and sits at the edge, her fox doll leaning down. One thing we have in common, our favourite animal were fox's, and wolves are our second favourite.

After a moment of silence she spoke. "Mom's adopting a girl. She is Uncle Henrik's daughter."

In my imagination my eyes popped out of its sockets.

"He had a daughter?"

"Yep." She sighed.

Melissa loves being the youngest in the family so this definitely was a big blow to her.

I took a deep breath in and let out a loud sigh. "It's okay Lisa, what can one extra girl do to this family?"

_________

"She's staying in Sarah's room?" I asked, not bothering to hide the shock.

Sarah's room is on the left side of my room. And if your wondering who she is, she's my distant cousin who's in college right now in Harvard on a scholarship. Her parents died when she was sixteen, so my mum looked after her. She's a great girl, though it took time to get used to, I love her like a sister.

Mum gives me a stern stare and dad sighs while Melissa quietly plays with her broccoli as if it were the most interesting plant in the world.

"No offense but we're hundreds and hundreds of miles away. Doesn't she have, ya know, family in Alaska. I mean she'd have to move ALL THE WAY over here and her dad just died." I pointed out.

"Melody sweety, her only parent is dead and her mother died at her birth. The least you could do is be a little light hearted about this whole situation and try to be NICE when she comes." Mum sharply said her hazel eye's staring straight into mine.

"I will be nice, I'm just curious for her sake." I sighed.

"Where do you expect her to go, Melody?" Mum asked sharply her eye's sending daggers straight into my skull. All the while dad was sending a reassuring smile to Melissa who's lips were already pouted.

"Okay okay, sheesh. I just read somewhere that moving hundred of miles away from home to an unfamiliar place to live with a family you don't know can't be very therapeutic."

Mum calmly cleaned her mouth with the edge of her napkin as if she was eating a small slice of cake with the Queen of England. "Please fix Serah's room up. She's coming this weekend."

I slumped my shoulders but nodded anyway.

"Yes mum."

After dinner dad and I remained in the kitchen to wash up while mum when to tuck Melody in.

There was a comfortable silence as I washed and dad dried. Dad wasn't a man of many words - just a few infact. But I could feel a pep talk coming.

Suddenly he cleared his throat as if on cue.

"Look. Melody, I know you do your research beforehand and prefer to have any and all situations under control and prepped with that hyperactive brain of yours but this is one situation you just have to let go and go with the flow. Think about what she's going through. She lost her only parent and we are the only people on this planet that have the ability to help her cope. When she comes next week I hope you please make an effort. And don't read too much into this one situation, okay?"

I nodded in reverence.

"Sure dad."
