“Hold on to me Ruby…!” Yuuzel yelled over the noise of the wind that zipped past us.

We were moving now; trying to catch up to the dark winged creature that was pouncing from one rooftop to another. Yuuzel was probably having difficulties because he had to carry me and chase after it at the same time. We were moving at an incredible speed, no less.

The shapes and sounds of the city streets below had faded into one mere vague illusion. Everything was a mix. And the people below didn’t seem to notice us at all. I tried opening my eyes but all I could see was the talons of what looked like a great big black bird – looking as if it had been a sorry experimental sample in some whacked-up underground laboratory that specializes on gene mutation of the species.

“Yuu…it’s getting away!” I said in his ear. He had enhanced senses so I guess Yuu could still hear me within these conditions.

He gripped my back tighter and picked up on his speed even more. Everything was a streak of colors now. The vague images of people and buildings were turned into a muddled illusion of an illusion. I couldn’t keep my eyes open at all and had to duck my head on his shoulder for me to be able to breathe under the strong force of the cold midnight air.

“Halt!” Yuu said, gripping on the topmost branch of a pine tree.

And suddenly everything became still and familiar again.

We were looking down below, viewing the entire Capital City Park. Nothing but trees and cobble stones were in sight – except for the dark creature that had perched atop another pine tree, a short distance away from us. Its face had been fully revealed under the brilliant light of the moon. It slowly turned to face us, and it grinned.

It was a terrible grin. A steady streak of saliva was flowing from the side of its murderous mouth and it had big dark orbs for eyes, feathers and black hair everywhere. Its talons had spots with scales and its body almost resembled that of a human. It also spoke in human language. It was a terrible voice. It sounded like it came from hell itself. It resounded in the deep and heavy midnight sky that enveloped us.

“Mastah Reyjomart Yuuzel…” It slithered a long, knife-like tongue along the rows of its bloody fangs as it spoke. “End shweet Lady…delizeus Prin-zessss…To which do I owe thee ze pleasure oft thy companeeh?”

This is a brief interpretation of what it had said: ‘Master Rejomart Yuuzel…and sweet Lady…delicious’ (although I’d much rather believe she meant ‘delightful’) Princess…To which do I owe thee the pleasure of thy company?’

“Salasarn…” Yuu spoke too in a deeper harsh tone, I had never heard from him before. “Did Errzabeth send you here?”

“Nay. Nay. Nay, dear mastah…powerful dark mastah… Queen Errzabeth, Thy dark mother, have naught commanded me since se time she hath slayed my sister”

“So without her provisions, you were feeding on the instructors of the academy?”

It grinned again - wider, deathlier and with a sick coat of pride. This was the same creature mentioned in the Black Journal. The one left of the Salasarn twins who had served Errzabeth eons ago.

It was mentioned that Errzabeth learned of the dark arts through an old sorceress named Salasarn and that having reached a cryptic age, that sorceress, revived herself into two halves of her former being. That is where the Salasarn Twins were born. One was ashen gray and one was dead black. This one was the black half of Salasarn.

I felt a cold shiver ran down my spine. Here was the enemy at last, after weeks of searching and waiting, here it was. And to think that I had read about it, to think that it was now looming infront of me…my back suddenly felt deadly cold and deadly aware of every bit of shuffle and screech around me. Looking at Yuuzel, he was visibly itching to battle it.
