+ And so the Sabbath Continues +

“Some thousand years ago, you were Emeraldie to us. But then you were reborn into Amber a few hundred years before now, Ruby.”  Yuuzel concluded, placing the journal back on top of his writing desk.

Two deaths that happened in the distant past were revealed to me. Now there was a recent murder within the school that I had to witness for myself. And when I fled to a new found friend – though I wanted to be more than that – for comfort, he tells me I might be next?

It took me a while to recompose myself. It’s not every day that you get to meet a couple of dark entities who neither looked like one but closely resembled billboard models, and even rarer, discover what your past lives were like. I had always been a little fascinated by the ‘Nirvana’ belief and the concept of going through life cycles until one’s soul was cleansed … bUut…I had never thought of going through those vicious cycles myself.

The idea of Amber’s – my death, a few hundred years ago, didn’t quite catch with me. I mean, how would you believe any of the crap two guys, who said they were Vampirrs, told you? Even if they were undeniably, painfully, beautiful…

“You must remain within The Archives until we find out Errzabeth’s whereabouts.” Yoh-I mean, Joseff, resolutely gave a pat on his knees and stood from the high-back chair that faced the long table.

“Whaat? Screw you! There’s no way I’m staying holed-up down here…I haven’t said that I actually believe any of your crap, now, have I?” snatching my sling bag from the couch I headed for the passageway - only to remember that one of them has sealed it with an enormous bookcase that only two elephants, a tractor, a six-wheeler truck and He-man, should be able to move; if only this wasn’t an exaggeration and if only things weren’t going for the weird.

Yoh or Joseff – ok Yoh, since I still won’t believe he was Joseff from the Black Journal, written 300 years ago – zipped past the bookcase and onto the other side of the passageway.

Jaw drop. Ok. Maybe that could be an affirmation of what they really were.

“Stand back” he said from outside.

Yuuzel pulled me by the arm, onto the other end of the long table just in time for the enormous bookcase to gingerly ease its way back on the wall. The candelabras shook even more as Yoh pushed it around the room.

“It’s as light as a cardboard. These are all fake, stage equipment, special effects…all of these highly technical things to try and gag you because we are all willing to spend so much effort to have you fooled, no I am not doing this to convince you.” He said sardonically.

“Stop yapping and just put that thing back where you got it.” I said, stomping towards the only exit, the only way back to a pebble of reality. I wasn’t going to let these guys drain away the last and bit of control I had over my remaining grain of sanity.

I marched up the stairway, relieved to feel the sun’s warm rays after mounting my bike. The school gates slowly disappeared as I peddled farther, but the roof of the main building remains pretty much in sight.

When I got back home the door was locked. And dammit I forgot my keys again! I sent mom a text message asking where she had hidden the emergency keys. I sat at the foyer, wiggled my feet for about five minutes until my cell phone beeped. Mom had replied saying that it was in one of her potted plants, blue one – referring to the blue rose that was displayed near the wooden handles of the foyer.

I had been always referring to it as ‘mutant rose’ since it had been synthetically bred to have that color. Humans really are sticking their noses further into messing around with the natural order of things. I leaned forward to find it when…a pair of slender hands caught mine.

“You really shouldn’t be sticking your hand in there. It could prick you” Yuu said. Apparently he had trailed me back home. He held both my hands and it didn’t seem like he had any plans of letting go.

“Aren’t you worried of burning under the sun?” I was the one who had to budge first, pretending to be dusting off imaginary dirt from my uniform.

He sighed and fished the key from the pot and proceeded to unlocking the door.

“There are some things you need to know about – about my kind” he stepped sideways and ushered me in.

I got in, removed my school shoes and then turned to face Yuuzel who was still standing outside. He was still holding the door knob while he looked at me, with eyes that seem to drink you all in. I felt the color creep up my face.

“May I come in?” he asked politely. I nodded and replied, “sure”

Yuuzel shook his head. He closed his eyes in utter disappointment – but with what? Was it actually rude for me to let him in?

“Never, ever invite a vampire inside your home. When you do, salt, garlic and household things that could repel us would be rendered useless.” He exhaled.

I blinked a few times trying to assimilate the info he just blurted out. A kind of shiver ran down my spine.

“I didn’t know that. Excuse me for not being a total noob.”

I turned my heel and headed for the kitchen. There was something that always made me hungry when I spent longer hours at school. And this day felt far longer than any before. When I got there though, Yuuzel was already sitting on the counter top near the microwave and the fridge.

“You see, inviting me here was like allowing me to make this house one of my dominions. Now I am free to do whatever I want because it also works as a permission to do so.” He leapt from the counter top and unto an empty chair.

I rolled my eyes in exasperation, trying to mask the fear that slowly crept out to snatch my throat.

“Ok, I’m just about to believe your crap…I just need evidence that’s all, preferably scientific evidence”

Yuuzel slowly turned his lips up to form a smile. I had to hold onto the fridge handle to keep my knees from buckling down. He was so pretty, it hurts.

“That could be arranged.”

“Fine. Then show me your fangs.” I said, eyebrow raised and hand planted on my waist.

“No.”

“But you just said-“

“I’ve got another idea.” He said landing on the door mat at the screen door. “I’ll take you out tonight instead.”

“Deal.”
