Surprisingly, Jack slept with no dreams last night. He didn't feel invigorated after the night's sleep, but he felt extremely relieved to still have air in his lungs. He felt good enough to record his daily two videos with his usual eagerness. He didn't want to look less energized than usual and have his fans worry. He moved his head side to side to get rid of the cracks in his neck. Jack slept in a weird position last night to prevent getting creeped out from his walls. His nose was mashed into his pillow all night long.
After he edited and uploaded his two videos, he stood up and left his room for his third cup of coffee. He walked down the hallway from his room to the kitchen and poured steaming coffee into his mug. Last night's sudden horror walking to the kitchen wasn't there. He felt empty, except for the coffee in his belly. He stirred his cup of joe and sipped while leaning on the countertop. The light pouring in from the window and the gentle breeze wafting in made everything peaceful. He was starting to believe he imagined last night's whole episode. Thank God, I'm not goin' crazy just yet. Jack thought. He downed the whole cup and walked back to his room.
When he entered, a tiny patch of air in the middle of his quarters was...distorted. It was rippling with tiny visible waves, like a glitch but in real life. Jack stood awestruck. He didn't know what it was. Curious, he reached out to touch it. His finger made contact with the small patch of air, and it zapped him. "Ah! God-damnit!!" He swore, shaking his whole hand to ease the pain. He examined his finger. It didn't break the skin, but it was beet red. "What the hell was that?" He whispered aloud. He looked back at the air. It was gone.
What is going on? The events have only been happening for two days, not to mention before the shadow-man showed up, with the camera and the thumps and all the extra stuff. But Sean was paranoid anywhere he went. The pain was fading. Just shake it off man. Maybe go outside today. Get something from the shop. Yeah okay. He sank down in his green and black swivel chair, rubbing his face with both hands. At this moment, Jack was getting multiple notifications from his latest videos. He clicked on the small bell and read all the new comments. Most of them said they liked the video and to continue the series, but there were other comments as well. He clicked onto those comments and read them. They were filled with concern and questioning. G3tR3ktN00b said "6:35 Does anyone else see the shadow in the background?" Multiple people commented saying they saw it too.
Jack had no idea what they were saying. He clicked onto the 6:35 link in the comment and freeze framed the video. His jaw literally dropped. He never saw that during editing. How did it get there? In his video while Jack screamed at his computer screen like normal, there was a shadow pressed against Jacksepticeye's wall, but it was standing and very still. It almost looked like black smoke from a fire, but it somehow kept a human form. Smoke was unfurling from it's...body? Obviously it wasn't sentient and alive, but what was it? It just stood there watching him for the rest of the twenty minute video. But when he finished the game and did the outro, the shadow was gone.
Jack quickly looked behind him. Nothing was on his wall except for his precious knick knacks and presents from fans. He didn't know what to do. He needed to leave; his rooms walls were closing in on him. He left his room and grabbed his keys and jacket. He slammed the door behind him and didn't look back. Jack didn't know where he was going, his just needed to be anywhere else. A half hour later, he found himself at the shop. To look normal and not look terrified for his life, he started flipping through stacks of t-shirts with nerdy designs on them, fearful that other shoppers were staring at him. He pretended to look at a t-shirt with the Assassin's Creed logo on it, but he was actually thinking of what could be happening in his head. He never had something happen like this in his life before; no one ever stalked him before, much less not a fucking shadow.
"Excuse me?" A small voice at his side popped up, making him jump. Even out of his own house he was still paranoid. He swallowed and turned to his right. It was a 15-year-old girl. She had brown short hair and brown eyes. She fidgeted with her tanned hands. "Uh yeah-yes?" He stammered. "You're Jacksepticeye right?" She asked. He nodded and looked around. The knotting fear in his stomach he felt in the kitchen last night came back full force. His hands started to sweat and he had the chills. Jack took a long breath and looked back at the girl. "Y-yes, yes, yes I am. Do you watch the channel?" He asked, while checking his surroundings. The girl got really excited. "Of course I do! I watch the channel every single day! My friends talk about you all the time!" The girl kept on speaking, and Jack really tried to smile and say thank you to his fan, but he felt something was definitely wrong. The last time the shadow appeared he had felt these "symptoms". But where was it then? Then he caught notice of something.
The shadow. It followed him out of his house and was now standing at the other side of the shop. The sight of the shadow increased the fear in his stomach and made him gasp aloud. What is that thing? Obviously it's a shadow, but is it someone watching him? No, he was face to face with it yesterday. How and why and when did it start following him? And what the hell is it?!! Jack inwardly yelled. Everything fell away. All noise, the whole shop, he just focused on it. He kept staring at it, studying it. It was studying him too. It didn't move at all, except for the smoke unfurling from it's feet. What do you want? He wanted to ask. But he didn't know if the thing could speak or understand english. Why are you here? Did I do something wrong? Are you the reaper? Suddenly he remembered his female fan. He turned around again. She looked up at him concerned. "Are you okay?" She asked. He nodded, his stomach filled with fear and anxiety. "Yeah, I'm fine. Thank you for watchin my videos, I really appreciate it." Sean said quickly. He looked back up. The shadow didn't move. It stood there, almost calculating his moves. "Do you mind if we take a picture?" She asked. He forced a smile. "Yeah of course." She took out her phone and positioned it for a selfie with the Irish youtuber. He smiled for the picture and she took it happily.
"Do you want to see it?" The girl asked. Sean nodded. "Sure." She showed him the photo. As soon as he saw it, the fear in his stomach increased so much it was actually painful. He started to sweat profusely. The picture showed the girl with a wide smile and a smiling Jackaboy, but the background. In the background was none other than the shadow itself, right behind the two. If he could make it out, he could almost see it grinning at the camera. As if it knew the paranoia it was putting him through. He had enough of this damn shadow, and he had only seen it twice so far. The girl didn't seem to notice the shadow in the picture almost like...he was the only one who could see it. At this point a small group of fans was shouting his name to take a picture with him. But he heard nothing except for the blood pounding in his ears. He quickly ran away out of the shop without another word. He could still hear them shouting his name. Jack! Jack! Jack! Take a picture with me! Don't ignore us! We're your fans! We all love you! He ran faster down the sidewalk. Do you not love us? What's wrong Jack? Are you okay? Answer us Jack! DON'T IGNORE US JACK! ANSWER US! ANSWER US DAMNIT! SPEAK! SAY SOMETHING! The voices in his head shouted to the top of their lungs but amidst it all, one voice stood out.
Say hello to them Sean. It might be the last time you get a chance. Jack looked behind him. Amongst the group of people, the shadow stood over them all. Jack ran faster, the voices still screaming at him. DON'T IGNORE US JACK! DON'T YOU DARE! GET BACK HERE YOU MOTHER FUCKER! YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE! WE'RE NOT DONE WITH YOU YET! People on the street tried to grab him to say hello, but he shoved them off. He just wanted to get away from the hands, the voices and the shadow. He glanced at the hands that grabbed him for just a moment. They were gross and decaying, small pieces of skin and muscle barely holding together what was left of the arm. Jack was almost out of breath but he ran faster out of terror. The fear in his stomach was doing nothing but grow. He looked back behind him and the shadow was basically breathing down his neck. With his remaining breath, he bounded to his apartment, slamming the door behind him and falling on his tailbone, facing the door.
His breath sawed in his chest and he held a hand to his heart. The voices ceased. It was terribly quiet. Not wanting to move, he sat cross-legged on his floor and put his elbows on his knees. What was happening to him? The festering hands that were grabbing him flashed behind his eyelids. He turned to get up, but was face to face with the shadow.
