John sat at the counter looking between the clock and the boy who sat only a few feet away from him. In the time frame of half an hour John had realized the following two things. One; his friends took forever to get to work, even when there was a boy emergency, and two; that the guy in front of him seemed to work non-stop.
It was only easy to tell, really. The guy has been there for almost an hour but yet he hasn't changed his position or shifted, not even once. Instead he just stood there, eyes that were covered with glasses glaring at the computer screen as he constantly typed. Honestly, John didn't think the guy stopped typing since he came in. Not to mention either that the guy had dark bags under his eyes, as if he hasn't slept in ages.
Hearing the bell jingle as the door opened made John break away from his thoughts as he looked over to the door. Smiling to them, John pointed a finger and wiggled it around accusingly.
"Took you long enough," He said, "I was just about to get Washington on your ass,"
Over in the chair, Alexander looked up at the sound of John's, or as Alex has called him "Cute Drawing Guy,", voice. Looking over to the door he saw two guys had come in, one who's hair was pulled back into a bun and the other who wore a beanie with a fancy M stitched into the front of it.
Automatically, the guy with the man bun spoke up. "Mon ami we both know Washington wouldn't do anything. Besides Mulligan and I were, how you say, occupied,"
The guy with the man bun had a thick French accent, much to the surprise of Alex. He hasn't met anyone French, although he was fluent in the language. Next to the French guy the guy with the beanie spoke up.
"What Laf said. Now, what was this emergency you were talking about?" Beanie guy asked as he leaned against the counter.
Deciding that it wasn't any of his business Alex quietly looked away from the three friends and went back to work, completely drowning them out as he typed away on his computer.
John, who made sure that Alex wasn't listening, sighed as he pointed over to the guy frantically typing away, "Him. He's the emergency. He's been in here for about an hour, I don't know his name but I do know that he's fucking adorable and I don't know how to strike up a conversation," John confessed.
Hercules laughed, shaking his head at John, "Why don't you say hello, like a normal person?"
John shook his head, "I can't do that! He might think I'm weird,"
This time both Lafayette and Hercules laughed loudly, which for a split second made Alexander look up to investigate what was going on. The both of them were shaking their heads, while John stood there with a small frown on his face.
"This isn't funny! I can't just walk up to a random guy and say hi," John exclaimed as he crossed his arms over his chest.
Lafayette, being the type of friend he was, put his hand on John's shoulder, "Mon ami, you're thinking is stupid. If you're at pride you can go up a stranger and talk to them a mile a minute about equality rights but yet you can't go up to the cute guy and say hi?"
John scoffed, gently shoving Lafayette jokingly, "Oh shut up. It took you three years to even have the courage to ask Hercules to go on a date," He replied.
"Yes and they were a shitty three years. John man up and, how you say, grow a pair. Don't be like me,"
"Yeah, don't be like him," Hercules cut off Lafayette, "When I said yes he hated his life for waiting so long. Besides, you may never see cute guy again, like ever. You should at least go over and see if you can get a number,"
John shook his head as he jumped up onto the counter, "There is no way in hell. Besides look at him, he's obviously extremely busy and doesn't need a guy to distract him from his work,"
Alexander, who has now shifted into a very comfortable position and did not plan to move until the library closed, heard the whole conversation. Sure, he totally wasn't supposed to and yes, maybe it was considered listening into someone's conversation but he couldn't help it. As soon as cute guys friends came in he was automatically listening. Besides, the three guys were pretty loud.
It was to the point now where he knew their names, and he know of cute guy, John's, plan on asking for his number. He was flattered, honestly. When he heard about it he felt his heart skip a beat but he didn't show that he was listening. Instead, he pretended he was looking something at his computer while in reality he was texting his best friends, Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy about what he had heard. The conversation was going a little bit like this.
TO; "Girl I Almost Dated", "Girl I dated", "And Peggy"
A.HAM : SOS.
A.Ham : Cute guy who works in the library i'm in is talking to his friends about wanting to ask for my number
Girl I Dated: Get it, Ham.
Girl I Almost Dated : Send a pictTURE WHAT THE FUCK.
A.HAM: fuckmeheshot.jpg
And Peggy: GeT IT HOLY SHIT THOSE FRECKLES.
A.Ham: He's being too much of a wimp to even come over and say hi.
Girl I Almost Dated: then you go over and say hi, wth don't let this chance go. You gotta take your shot, man.
A.Ham: Damn, you right. Imma ask him.
It took Alexander until closing time for him to go up and ask John.
Both Lafayette and Hercules have been trying for hours to get John to go over and say something to Alexander but they never got anywhere. John kept on coming up with excuses.
"He's busy!" "He's obviously straight." "I can't ask him, he's way to out of my league,". Now, his friends were getting annoyed.
"Dammit, John! Just ask for his number already, what's the worst that can happen? He won't give it to you?" Hercules said.
"No, it's not just that. It would be awkward as fuck and you know how I feel about awkwardness," John replied as he leaned against his hand.
"I don't care if it's awkward, John. You want to talk to him, go talk to hi-"
"Excuse me?" A voice interjected.
All three of the guys turned around towards the voice. Alexander, who was shorter and smaller than the other three guys, was stood there with a small piece of paper in his hands.
He turned to John, who was staring at him with wide eyes, "I heard your conversation and considering I'm the only guy in this room that's not one of your friends, I concluded that you were talking about me," Alexander handed him the piece of paper, "The name's Alexander Hamilton. Next time, maybe be a bit quieter when you're talking,"
Alexander turned around, not giving any of them a chance to reply as he walked out of the library.
With wide eyes John looked at the door, at the paper, at the door, then back at the paper again. Slowly unfolding it, he seen a number and a sentence wrote in messy hand writing.
"780-0283-38302 - my number.
P.S I think you're pretty cute too.
-A.Ham"
